Justice Department Lied About Possession Of Biden Transcripts With Biographer As Part Of Classified Documents Probe

The Justice Department recently corrected its initial denial and acknowledged the existence of President Biden's interview transcripts after scrutiny over their handling of classified documents.

Fox News reported that initially, Department of Justice lawyers stated they did not possess any transcript that could be verified for accuracy involving President Biden and biographer Mark Zwonitzer.

However, this stance changed dramatically with a court filing on a late Monday, revealing that the transcripts were indeed in their possession. This indicates that the DOJ is actively trying to hide things from the public and cannot be trusted to be honest.

These transcripts were obtained during the review process of audio recordings from interviews conducted in 2007 and 2017, a time when President Biden was actively involved in providing material for his biography with Zwonitzer.

Broadening Investigation and Executive Privilege

The transcripts turned out to be crucial for Robert Hur, the special counsel appointed to oversee Biden's classified document case.

Hur used these transcripts alongside a handwritten note by President Biden about Afghanistan to conclude the former VP’s mental state and decision-making capacities.

Hur's detailed report portrayed Biden as a "sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory", advising against laying criminal charges due to the difficulties in demonstrating a willful mishandling of classified materials.

In a parallel development earlier this year, President Biden invoked executive privilege. This move was intended to restrict access to the audio and video recordings related to the investigation.

The White House and Attorney General Merrick Garland underscored the need for maintaining confidentiality to ensure the independence and integrity of high-profile criminal probes, especially those requiring White House cooperation.

Impact of FOIA Requests and Legal Proceedings

The scope and scale of the investigation into Biden's handling of classified documents expanded as the Heritage Foundation submitted an FOIA request specifically for the Biden-Zwonitzer interview transcripts.

In responding to these requests, the DOJ had to clarify their initial response and recognized the transcripts following consultations with unnamed individuals and Robert Hur himself.

The controversy reached the courtrooms with DOJ lawyer Cameron Silverberg facing U.S. District Judge Dabney Friedrich, during which the back and forth over the existence and reliability of the transcripts played out.

While the legal battles and contentions over document handling and executive privilege continued, the political landscape shifted. President Biden withdrew from the presidential race amid mounting pressures, propelling Vice President Kamala Harris as the new frontrunner for the Democratic nomination.

This departure from the race threw an even brighter spotlight on the investigations, intertwining legal outcomes with potential political fallout.

Concluding Reflections

In conclusion, the unfolding of events from the denial to the acknowledgment of the Biden transcripts by the DOJ has not only highlighted the complexities involved in managing presidential documentation but also resonated through the realms of legal scrutiny and political strategy.

The Heritage Foundation’s FOIA requests initiated a chain reaction, culminating in admissions that have had wide-reaching implications.

This saga underscores the delicate balance between transparency, executive privilege, and the multifaceted nature of high-profile governmental investigations.
