Robert F. Kennedy Jr. initially chose Shanahan as his vice presidential running mate. Although Kennedy later dropped out of the race and endorsed then-President Donald Trump, their ticket still earned over 750,000 votes across several state ballots.

She shared details of her spiritual transformation in a post on X titled "My Baptism Story," published earlier this week. Shanahan explained that her Christian journey began in September 2024, after experiencing a devastating personal loss that she chooses not to discuss in detail.

Shanahan’s conversion began when her masseuse introduced her to Diane Robinson, a spiritual guide. Robinson and her husband, Peter—both religious leaders with the titles of bishop and apostle—played crucial roles in baptizing Shanahan.

Shanahan described her spiritual awakening, revealing that an overwhelming sense of heaviness and a spontaneous prayer during her daughter's night terror became pivotal moments. She experienced this in January while struggling with her spiritual beliefs.

"Diane looked at me and said with absolute certainty that Jesus could save me—that His blood can wash away sins and defeat the darkness that haunts the innocent," Shanahan recalled, quoting her spiritual guide.

Shanahan held her baptism in her backyard on January 19, 2025, just days before President Trump’s inauguration. The intimate and profound ceremony involved Shanahan and her husband, Jacob, fully immersing themselves in their swimming pool as the Robinsons witnessed the event.

During the ceremony, Diane Robinson read scripture to Shanahan from a well-worn Bible, marking the beginning of a new chapter in her life. She described the experience as feeling "wrapped in a warm cocoon while becoming a grounded, weighted, immovable obelisk."
