Miraculous Recoveries and Faith: True Stories

When Lorraine Besson went in for routine spinal surgery, no one expected her journey to turn into a fight for life.

In March 2016, Lorraine Besson experienced a severe complication from a supposed minor surgery that nearly cost her life but ultimately led to a miraculous recovery, CBN reported.

Lorraine underwent spinal fusion surgery, which was thought to be of low risk. However, the following day at home, she began struggling enormously with her breathing.

Emergency Response to a Critical Complication

Fearing for her life, Lorraine was quickly rushed to the hospital in an ambulance. In the emergency room, Dr. Lura Wight encountered a grave situation; Lorraine's airway was obstructed, making it difficult to breathe.

"For emergency medicine physicians, one of the scariest emergencies we see is lack of an airway," Dr. Wight recalled. She urgently worked to keep Lorraine oxygenated as they awaited further medical assistance.

The complication stemmed from a nick in Lorraine’s thyroid artery during surgery, leading to internal bleeding and blocking her airway. A standard intubation was risky. "I chose to keep her oxygenated while waiting for anesthesia," Dr. Wight explained.

Racing Against Time in the ICU

Lorraine was then placed in the intensive care unit on a ventilator, in a drug-induced coma to stabilize her condition. The critical state of her health was daunting to her loved ones. "All I could do was pray," said Angela, a close family friend.

Gradually, after 10 tense days, Lorraine began to breathe independently. Her recovery journey continued in a rehabilitation center, where she showed signs of cognitive impairment due to an anoxic brain injury, as explained by Dr. Martin Setliff.

"She had difficulty even recalling what she did the previous hour," Dr. Setliff noted, highlighting the severity of the brain injury caused by the temporary lack of adequate blood flow to her brain.

Rapid Recovery Raises Hopes and Spirits

Despite initial fears that Lorraine might need prolonged rehabilitation, her progress was swift. Dr. Setliff originally thought she would require three to four weeks in rehab, but remarkably, Lorraine was discharged in just about 13 days.

"She was fortunately able to undermine my original estimation," Dr. Setliff remarked, pleased with her unexpected and rapid improvement.

Lorraine herself credits her recovery to divine intervention, firmly stating, "I’m proof that miracles do happen. It was only through the intervention of God." Her faith, shared by her family and friends, played a vital role in her healing process.

A Story of Faith and Miracles Shared

Now, five years after the incident, Lorraine actively shares her story, emphasizing her miraculous recovery. "I still will ask people, ‘Would you like to hear my miracle story?’" she says, finding joy and purpose in inspiring others with her experience.

The impact of her story is profound. "I can’t tell you how many times I’ve told them my story and then they say, ‘Thank you so much for telling me your story, I needed to hear that today,’" Lorraine reflects on the responses she receives.

Through her ordeal and recovery, Lorraine's story has become a beacon of hope and a testament to the power of faith and the resilience of the human spirit, touching the lives of many who hear it.
