In a tragic incident in Uganda, a mother of six was murdered by her husband after she converted from Islam to Christianity. Nasiimu Mirembe, 41, was attacked near a church by her spouse, Adamu Mukungu, who accused her of betrayal during the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

In eastern Uganda, the conversion of Nasiimu Mirembe to Christianity on March 21 led to her tragic death at her husband's hands two days later as she returned from her first church service, the Christian Post reported.

Mirembe, who resided in Busembatya town council, had decided to embrace Christianity after attending a service at a local church. This decision came with dire consequences as her husband vehemently opposed her newfound faith.

The incident unfolded on March 23 when Mirembe, accompanied by a friend who had introduced her to Christianity, was spotted by her husband a short distance from the church. Mukungu, overwhelmed by what he believed was a profound betrayal, confronted Mirembe in anger.

A neighboring witness, Awudu Mbulalina, had earlier seen the two women heading towards the service. He greeted them warmly, which led Mirembe to fear that her husband would soon learn of her conversion.

Initial Confrontation and Violent Attack Near Church

Mukungu's confrontation quickly escalated as he verbally assaulted Mirembe, criticizing her actions, especially during Ramadan, a period significant to Muslims. “I saw you come out of the church. What you have done is very bad, especially during this period of Ramadan,” he remarked during the altercation.

According to Mirembe's friend, Mukungu then started to physically assault Mirembe. “Immediately he started slapping his wife,” the friend recalled. Amidst the chaos, she began screaming for help, which caught the attention of nearby church members.

The situation turned graver when Mukungu pulled out a long knife and began attacking Mirembe. Several church members, led by a church elder, rushed towards the scene upon hearing the screams, prompting Mukungu to flee.

Emergency Response and Subsequent Death

Mirembe was quickly taken to a local clinic in an attempt to manage her injuries. Due to the severity of her condition, she was later transferred to a larger hospital in Bugiri. Despite medical efforts, Mirembe succumbed to severe internal and external bleeding, dying at 3:45 a.m. on March 24.

The police initiated a search for Mukungu, who had escaped the scene immediately after the attack. As of the latest updates, he remained at large, with law enforcement continuing their efforts to locate him.

Mirembe's untimely death leaves behind six children, whose ages range from 3 to 18. The community and her family, especially her two sons and four daughters, are devastated by the loss.
