Trump says Biden staff endangered the nation with border policies

An explosive new allegation from President Donald Trump has ignited fierce debate in Washington, drawing sharp lines between supporters and critics of his administration.

According to Breitbart, President Trump has publicly accused officials who served under Joe Biden of committing “treason at the highest level” for what he describes as the deliberate opening of the southern U.S. border and the subsequent arrival of millions of migrants.

Trump’s accusation was posted on his Truth Social account and has since reverberated through political and media circles. The president alleges that Biden-era staff, rather than Biden himself, opened the border in a calculated move that endangered national security and cost the nation hundreds of billions of dollars. Trump’s remarks come at a time when immigration policy remains one of the most divisive issues in U.S. politics.

Trump Points to Biden’s Staff and DHS Leadership

Trump’s statement singles out officials from Joe Biden’s administration, with particular focus on Alejandro Mayorkas, who served as Secretary of Homeland Security. Trump contends that it was not Biden’s intention to open the border, but rather, staffers who he claims “knew he was cognitively impaired” and made critical decisions behind the scenes.

In his Truth Social post, Trump wrote,

Joe Biden was not for Open Borders, he never talked about Open Borders, where criminals of all kinds, shapes, and sizes, can flow into our Country at will. It wasn’t his idea to Open the Border, and almost destroy our Country, and cost us Hundreds of Billions of Dollars to get criminals out of our Country, and go through the process we are going through now. It was the people that knew he was cognitively impaired, and that took over the Autopen. They stole the Presidency of the United States, and put us in Great Danger. This is TREASON at the Highest Level! They did it to destroy our Country.

Trump’s accusations extend to the assertion that these unnamed staffers effectively usurped the presidency by making executive decisions while Biden was allegedly unfit to fulfill his duties. The president called for serious consequences for what he termed “treasonous thugs.” Trump’s attack comes as his administration takes a hardline stance on border security, promising to reverse what he calls the catastrophic effects of Biden-era immigration policies.

Criticism and Response From Political Figures

Vice President JD Vance echoed Trump’s sentiments in an interview with the New York Times podcast “Interesting Times.” Vance argued that the Biden administration’s border policy was shaped more by unelected staffers than by President Biden himself, reinforcing Trump’s narrative that critical decisions were made without the president’s full engagement.

Trump’s critics, however, have pushed back forcefully, accusing the president of politicizing tragic incidents involving migrant-related crimes and using inflammatory rhetoric for political gain. They argue that the U.S. immigration system is complex and that painting all Biden officials as criminals is both misleading and dangerous.

On the other hand, supporters of Trump’s approach assert that lax enforcement under Mayorkas led to a surge of illegal border crossings, with Breitbart reporting that eight million migrants entered the country in four years. Detractors of Mayorkas point to several high-profile crimes allegedly committed by migrants paroled or released under DHS directives as evidence of failed policy.

Mayorkas’s Parole Pipeline and Congressional Tensions

Under Alejandro Mayorkas, the Department of Homeland Security reportedly implemented a “parole pipeline” that allowed over a million migrants with no ties to the United States to schedule appointments for release at the border and fly into the country via commercial flights. Critics claim this strategy bypassed standard vetting processes and contributed to increased risks for American communities.

Mayorkas has faced repeated demands from Congress for a comprehensive account of migrants released into the U.S., but according to Breitbart, he has refused to provide a full accounting. This lack of transparency has fueled further scrutiny and anger from Republican lawmakers.

Additionally, the Department of Government Efficiency revealed that individuals on the Terrorist Watch List were granted parole and permitted to collect benefits such as Medicaid after their release into the United States. These revelations have intensified calls from Trump and his allies for criminal charges and accountability among former Biden officials.

Deaths, Policy Fallout, and the Path Forward

Reports during Mayorkas’s leadership cite the deaths of several Americans, including Laken Riley, Jocelyn Nungaray, and others, allegedly at the hands of migrants released under DHS policies. These cases have been seized upon by Trump and his supporters as evidence of the dangers posed by what they see as reckless border management.

The Biden administration’s defenders counter that many migrants are fleeing violence and poverty, seeking refuge in the United States and that harsh enforcement measures often hurt vulnerable individuals and families. They warn that criminalizing policy differences or charging political opponents with treason sets a dangerous precedent for American democracy.

With the 2024 election cycle still fresh in the nation’s memory, Trump’s accusations are likely to remain a focal point for both campaigns and policy debates as the country grapples with questions of border security, executive authority, and national identity.
