Nolte: Trump declines CBS News $15 million deal

Well, folks, President Trump just tossed a $15 million settlement offer from CBS News’ parent company, Paramount Global, right back into their lap like a hot potato.

According to Breitbart News, Trump’s rejection of the offer is the latest twist in his massive $20 billion lawsuit against CBS News, accusing their flagship program, 60 Minutes, of meddling in the 2024 presidential election through deceptive editing of an interview with then-Vice President Kamala Harris.

This legal battle kicked off late last year when Trump filed a $10 billion lawsuit against CBS News, alleging that 60 Minutes manipulated an interview to make Harris appear more coherent on Israel policy than she was.

The network, according to the suit, swapped out a muddled response for a polished one, raising serious questions about journalistic integrity. After all, CBS enjoys the privilege of public airwaves and is supposed to serve, not mislead, the American people.

Trump’s Lawsuit Balloons to $20 Billion

Shortly after the initial filing, Trump upped the ante, increasing the lawsuit to a staggering $20 billion. That’s not pocket change, and it signals he’s not playing games with what he sees as a direct attack on fair elections.

Fast forward to now, and Paramount Global, CBS’s parent, came to the table with a $15 million settlement offer after a month of arbitration talks. Trump, however, isn’t biting—he’s holding out for at least $25 million and a public apology from CBS. Seems like he’s saying, “Nice try, but no cigar.”

Adding fuel to the fire, a judge refused to dismiss the lawsuit, even as some in the media scoffed, claiming so-called “experts” deemed the case frivolous. Well, turns out a court of law isn’t swayed by talking heads, and this fight is far from over.

Merger Woes Complicate CBS’s Strategy

Meanwhile, Paramount Global is juggling more than just Trump’s legal wrath—they’re pushing for an $8 billion merger with Skydance Media. But here’s the rub: Skydance isn’t keen on moving forward until this lawsuit is resolved, and the deal still needs a green light from the FCC. Talk about a corporate headache.

Skydance is also making noises about shaking things up at CBS News, citing credibility issues and sagging ratings. If that’s not a wake-up call for a network already on thin ice, I don’t know what is.

Back at CBS, internal chaos is brewing with the resignation of the executive editor of 60 Minutes and the president of CBS News stepping down. This $15 million offer, now public and rejected, is only expected to deepen the dissatisfaction within the network’s ranks. Actions, it seems, do have consequences.

More Legal Threats Loom for CBS

As if that weren’t enough, there’s a potential second lawsuit on the horizon from Trump, this time for defamation. The cause? A recent 60 Minutes piece reportedly likened him to a “mob boss,” which isn’t exactly the kind of flattery one frames on the wall.

For conservatives like us, this whole mess underscores a broader concern: the mainstream media’s apparent willingness to bend the truth for political ends. When a network edits interviews to prop up one side, it’s not just bias—it’s a betrayal of public trust.

Trump’s refusal to settle for $15 million sends a clear message—he’s not here for half-measures or quiet deals behind closed doors. He wants accountability and perhaps a reminder that the airwaves aren’t a playground for progressive agendas.

CBS Faces Credibility Crisis Head-On

Let’s not forget, CBS News isn’t just fighting Trump; it’s fighting for its reputation. With leadership resignations and merger partners threatening major changes, the network is at a crossroads. Will they double down or finally take a hard look in the mirror?

For now, the ball is in CBS’s court, and the stakes couldn’t be higher. Paramount Global might have thought $15 million would smooth things over, but Trump’s rejection proves he’s playing a longer game. And in this arena, underestimating your opponent is a rookie mistake.
