Joe Rogan shares a positive experience attending a Christian church

Podcaster Joe Rogan surprised listeners during a recent episode of his show by revealing that he’s been consistently attending a Christian church and feels better after giving up alcohol.During a wide-ranging June 5, 2025, episode of “The Joe Rogan Experience,” Rogan revealed that he has been active in a non-denominational Christian church and stopped drinking alcohol three months earlier as part of an ongoing personal transformation, the Christian Post reported.

Rogan made the comments while speaking with comedians Shane Gillis, Mark Normand and Ari Shaffir. The episode covered a variety of topics, including politics, religion, drug use and sobriety. Over the course of the conversation, Rogan described his recent lifestyle changes and growing interest in spiritual matters.

When Normand asked if he was actually attending church, Rogan acknowledged that he had started going regularly. He described it as “actually very nice,” adding that the people there were simply “trying to be better.”

Rogan explained that he had previously tried attending Catholic services but ultimately found a better fit in a non-denominational Christian community. Shaffir clarified the type of church, and Rogan confirmed with a humorous tone that it was not connected to televangelist Joel Osteen, sarcastically saying, “Yeah, I’m just giving all my money to Osteen.”

Gillis chimed in with a story about someone giving him a rosary, describing the experience as “very nice.” The comedians discussed varying church experiences, with laughter mixed throughout the dialogue, as Rogan framed his spiritual exploration in a casual and candid tone.

Transition to sobriety and fitness

During the episode, Rogan also spoke about his decision to stop drinking alcohol. He said he had been sober for three months, motivated by curiosity and a desire to feel better physically.

“The only reason I stopped the booze,” Rogan said, “was because I wanted to see what it’d be like to have no booze for a long period of time.” He emphasized that he now feels significantly healthier and more energetic.

He noted that drinking had begun to interfere with his fitness goals, and giving it up has allowed him to return to a more disciplined routine. Rogan added that stand-up comedy and time with fellow comedians helped create a positive outlet in place of alcohol.

Conversations around faith and doubt

Spiritual topics have surfaced more frequently on Rogan’s podcast throughout 2025. On May 7, during a conversation with fellow podcaster Cody Tucker, Rogan said that when it comes to extraordinary claims, he’s “sticking with Jesus.”

He contrasted belief in the Resurrection with modern scientific theories about the origins of the universe, questioning the plausibility of the idea that everything began from a pinpoint sized particle that expanded spontaneously—claims he feels are not thoroughly explained.

This wasn’t the first time Rogan tackled Christian belief on his show in recent months. In January 2025, Christian apologist Wes Huff appeared on the podcast. By May, Huff confirmed Rogan’s church attendance was regular and ongoing.

Rogan's ongoing spiritual conversations

Huff, who has kept in touch with Rogan since his appearance, described him as intellectually curious and sincere in his pursuit of understanding spiritual topics. According to Huff, Rogan has been exploring areas such as Scripture, faith, and the doctrinal reliability of Christian teaching.

“Things are happening,” Huff said, describing Rogan as someone open to engaging with meaningful ideas. He emphasized Rogan's willingness to process complex spiritual concepts with voices of influence from various traditions.

Huff added that Rogan’s recent interest reflects a broader cultural trend, as more public figures speak openly about faith and transformation. He pointed to a rise in serious conversations—even about theological nuance—within broader public discourse.

Larger context of spiritual transformation

The movement of entertainers exploring faith isn't unique to Rogan. Comedian Rob Schneider shared his own spiritual journey after converting to Catholicism in 2023, saying his work and perspective had shifted as a result of his convictions.

Schneider explained that while he doesn’t judge his past, he won’t create the same type of content now. He said he hoped to approach his future projects from a place of integrity and personal faith.

Though the two comedians have different backgrounds, both reflect how figures in entertainment are using their platforms to explore deeper existential themes and share their evolving worldviews with audiences.

Faith, friendships and future paths

In the June conversation with his fellow comedians, Rogan spoke with humor and honesty about how his personal choices have affected his daily life. When Normand joked, “You’ll be back,” referring to alcohol, Rogan quipped, “You think so? That’s a supportive friend.”

Rogan also laughed about how good he felt after quitting drinking. “You stop doing it, and you’re like, ‘Oh, I feel so much better. Why was I doing that?’” he said. He also acknowledged that he had enjoyed drinking at times in the past and wasn’t condemning it outright.

For now, Rogan appears focused on improving his health, nurturing his curiosity, and maintaining genuine conversations with those around him—both in comedy circles and spiritual communities alike.
