Teen girl’s emotional funeral speech now evidence in double murder arrest

A Georgia teenager who once stood before mourners in tears is now behind bars, accused of gunning down the very people she eulogized.

Sarah Grace Patrick, 17, has been charged with the murders of her mother and stepfather, who were found fatally shot in their Carrollton home in February 2025, Daily Mail reported.

On February 20, authorities discovered the bodies of 41-year-old Kristin Brock and her husband, 45-year-old James Brock, lying in their bed with fatal gunshot wounds. They were found inside their home located roughly 45 miles west of Atlanta. There were no signs of forced entry or robbery, and a child in the house at the time was the first to make the gruesome discovery.

The couple's six-year-old daughter, Jaley, identified the unresponsive bodies and ran to alert her older sister, Sarah. It was Sarah who then placed a call to emergency services. At the time of the killings, Sarah lived in the home with her mother, stepfather, and younger sister.

In the weeks that followed, Sarah became a public figure of grief, sharing tributes on TikTok and social media platforms. She uploaded a stream of messages and images reflecting her sorrow, including a photo featuring two urns said to contain her parents’ ashes. Her online presence, at the time, drew sympathy and support from those around her.

Funeral Clip Raises Suspicions Among Family

On March 8, during a funeral service held at Catalyst Church in Carrollton, Sarah gave an emotional eulogy that would later come under intense scrutiny. In the video, she introduced herself to the crowd as Kristin’s daughter and James’s stepdaughter. She thanked her relatives for helping her through what she described as a “nightmare.”

During her remarks, she read aloud a heartfelt letter her mother had once written to James. The reading included metaphors about life's uncertainties and the need to “dance to your beat,” seemingly adding to the emotional depth of her tribute. Sarah described both parents as supportive and loving figures in her life.

But not everyone in attendance believed the teenager’s emotional display. Krysten Dowda, the niece of James Brock, recalled feeling disturbed by what she described as insincere “crying” during the funeral. Dowda was skeptical from the moment Sarah took the podium, later saying, “The pieces just weren’t making sense.”

“Fake Crying” Sparks Family Doubts

In interviews and social media posts that circulated afterward, Dowda voiced her belief that Sarah’s behavior during the funeral was disingenuous. She expressed frustration that others defended Sarah as “just a little girl,” saying, “A monster can be a little girl in a dress.” Dowda claimed she saw right through Sarah’s grief and left the service immediately afterward.

Authorities say this dramatic eulogy video, along with Sarah’s extensive digital activity, ultimately became part of the investigative trail. According to Carroll County communications director Ashley Hulsey, the evidence gathered was substantial. She described it as “mountains of evidence,” which included both physical and online clues.

The teen was formally charged the week of her arrest after she turned herself in, accompanied by her biological father. Hulsey said a warrant had already been issued at the time she was taken into custody. Sarah now faces two counts each of murder and aggravated assault.

Community Staggered As Motive Remains Unclear

Since the tragedy, Sarah has reportedly been living with various relatives. Hulsey confirmed that the investigation remains ongoing and left the possibility open for additional arrests or charges. However, investigators have yet to determine a clear motive for the crime.

Inside the Brock family, the emotional toll continues to mount. James Brock had often posted loving messages about both Sarah and Jaley on social media, referring to them fondly as his daughters. In one post, he shared a photo of Sarah with the caption, “She’s all grown up, love u, Sarah.”

Dowda has publicly refuted any claims of abuse within the Brock household. “People saying Jamey could have been the monster—I’m here to say she’s the only monster in this scenario,” she said, voicing the opinions of other family members who say James treated his stepchildren no differently than his biological kids.

Youngest Sibling Described as “Saddest Victim”

Hulsey specifically mentioned the six-year-old child who discovered the bodies as perhaps the most tragic figure in the situation. “A mother and a stepfather will never be able to raise their children,” she said, referring to Jaley’s loss. “To me, she's probably the saddest victim in all of this.”

Sarah’s father, Doniel Patrick, expressed continued support for his daughter even after her arrest. Sharing messages of encouragement, he described her as having “purpose” and being “wrapped in grace.” His stance drew mixed reactions from a shaken and divided community.

While the judicial process begins, the Carrollton community grapples with unanswered questions. Residents are left reflecting on a funeral that many now believe may have been a calculated performance. No trial date has been publicly announced yet.
