A teacher at an Alabama private Christian school has been arrested following allegations of a sexual relationship with a female student that law enforcement officials are continuing to investigate.

Sarah Huggins Logan, 35, formerly employed at North River Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa, was arrested Friday after a report by the student’s parents spurred a criminal investigation earlier in the week, the New York Post reported.

Authorities say the student’s parents contacted law enforcement on Wednesday after becoming aware of what they described as an inappropriate relationship between their daughter and the teacher. The Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office began investigating the same day.

Officers from the department’s Violent Crimes Unit quickly launched a detailed probe. This included conducting interviews and gathering additional evidence tied to Logan, who, up until that point, had been working at the Christian academy offering education from preschool through 12th grade.

On Friday, Logan was formally arrested and taken into custody. She has been charged with a felony offense described in Alabama law as a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student.

School Responds After Investigation Begins

Upon learning of the accusations earlier in the week, North River Christian Academy promptly notified law enforcement. The school has since confirmed that Logan's employment has ended and issued a public statement addressing the situation.

“Our first concern is for the health and welfare of our students, staff, and families,” school officials wrote in a message posted Friday to Facebook. The statement also urged restraint as the community reacts to the news, advising, "Please respect the privacy of all these parties."

The school, which was founded in 1981 by Open Door Baptist Church, emphasized the emotional toll the reports have taken on the school community. “It should be self-evident to say that this incident is heartrending for all involved,” the statement added.

Authorities Urge Victims or Witnesses to Come Forward

Capt. Jack Kennedy of the Tuscaloosa County Sheriff's Office confirmed that more charges may follow depending on the results of the investigation. Detectives are currently working to determine if additional students were involved.

“More charges could be coming,” Kennedy said Friday. He also issued a request to the public, asking that anyone else who may have been impacted by Logan's conduct or who might have relevant information contact authorities immediately.

In addition to formal interviews, law enforcement is reportedly examining evidence from digital and other sources to establish the timeline and extent of the alleged relationship. However, the exact age of the student and how long the relationship lasted have not been made public.

School Motto Emphasizes Faith and Character

North River Christian Academy has long promoted its mission to cultivate spiritual values alongside academics. The school’s stated motto is to equip students to “glorify God in all they do.”

Officials say the school reacted swiftly to comply with legal obligations and protect student safety. Logan is no longer affiliated with the institution in any capacity, and administrators have maintained contact with authorities throughout the process.

“We have prayed for them and encouraged our entire school family to hold them up in their prayers,” the school said, referring to those impacted. “This situation is easy for no one; there are only degrees of difficulty.”

Crime Unit Continues Active Investigation

The sheriff’s department has not released a detailed account of its ongoing investigation due to the sensitive nature of the allegations and the involvement of a juvenile. Officials have only confirmed that the process is active and ongoing.

The Violent Crimes Unit remains the lead agency handling the case. The sheriff’s office has stated it will release more information as appropriate, especially if more individuals come forward.

Capt. Kennedy has emphasized the importance of community assistance in these types of cases. “We are asking other possible victims to step forward,” he said, reiterating the department’s commitment to pursuing justice.
