Forrest Frank recovers from back injury, prepares to release song inspired by faith
Christian musician Forrest Frank is using his pain to deliver a message of hope and resilience.
Following a serious back injury sustained in a skateboarding accident, Frank has announced a new single titled “God’s Got My Back,” written during his recovery and set for release on Friday, the Christian Post reported.
Frank, 30, suffered a back fracture after slipping off a skateboard while playing with his 2-year-old son, Bodie. The accident, which was recorded on a home security camera, left him with fractures in his L3 and L4 vertebrae. The fall caused severe lower back pain, making even simple movements like getting out of bed excruciating.
Family bonds and spiritual strength during recovery
Frank has been openly sharing his recovery journey with his 1.7 million followers on TikTok. In one emotional post, he and his wife, Grace, are shown in bed, tearfully praying as she helps him sit up. “Help me. Help me, Jesus!” Frank cried out during the intense moment, with Grace calling the progress they made “a miracle.”
The couple has credited their ability to endure this painful time to their faith. “Every time we’ve fully focused our mind on Jesus … it hasn’t hurt,” Frank said, a sentiment Grace also echoed. Their updates have resonated with viewers, offering a real-time glimpse into the physical and spiritual challenges Frank faces day by day.
In a caption shared on social media, Frank documented one of these moments by writing, “Day 5 with a broken back … Every day I have to get out of bed to use the restroom & it’s excruciating pain … but Jesus has been getting us through it.”
Turning pain into purpose through music
Amid the limitations of his recovery, Frank channeled his emotions into songwriting. While still bedridden, he began creating “God’s Got My Back,” a new original track that reflects his reliance on faith. The lyrics—“Even when I fall or get attacked … I don’t have to worry about tomorrow”—have quickly gained traction online.
Frank introduced the song on TikTok, explaining that he built the entire track around spontaneous lyrics. “I think I’m gonna just sing whatever pops out, and I’m gonna build the chords around it,” he said. In just three hours, he completed the song, which has since gone viral and inspired numerous fan videos.
Fellow Christian musicians were quick to extend their support. Lecrae commented that the song “sounds dope,” while Colton Dixon praised Frank’s commitment by calling it “the epitome of no excuses.”
Faith-focused transformation fuels career change
Frank’s journey is not just physical but also spiritual. In a recent reflection, he compared his recovery to the biblical story of Peter walking on water, saying, “We’re fixing our eyes on him and able to walk on water. But as soon as we’re not, it is treacherous.”
Once part of the surf-pop duo Surfaces, Frank made a bold move to focus solely on Christian music. He described the switch as deeply rewarding, sharing, “I’m alive when I worship Him.” He added that returning to pop music now feels empty in comparison.
“There’s no substance in it for me,” he said. “The fact that I get to wake up every day and worship Jesus and then just record it … is so fulfilling and so life-giving, and I’m here to stay.”
Recognition and rising influence in Christian music
Frank’s impact on the Christian music scene has been meteoric. At the 2024 GMA Dove Awards, he was named New Artist of the Year, and his track “Good Day” earned honors for Pop/Contemporary Recorded Song of the Year. His debut solo album, Child of God, reached No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Christian Albums chart.
Collaborations with Elevation Worship, Maverick City Music, Lecrae, and Hulvey have solidified his presence in the genre. His singles “Nothing Else” and “Your Way’s Better” continue to gain traction, with both currently ranked in Billboard’s Top 40 Christian radio chart.
“Your Way’s Better” has even inspired a popular dance trend on social media, showcasing the wide cultural reach of his music beyond traditional worship spaces.
Looking ahead with optimism and faith
In his most recent update, Frank expressed gratitude to his followers, writing, “Thanks for all your prayers… We’re gonna get through this!!! Today is the day that the Lord has made, I will rejoice and be glad in it!!!!” His positivity reflects an enduring hope built on faith and family support.
As he prepares to release “God’s Got My Back,” Frank continues to lift spirits—not just through his words, but through a lived testimony of perseverance. Despite the physical obstacles, he remains deeply connected to his creative calling.
With millions following his recovery and responding to his music, Frank’s story is already making an impact well beyond his online posts. For him, this chapter is not just about healing—it’s a powerful example of turning pain into praise.
