DHS criticizes Newsom over fatal crash involving unauthorized migrant

DHS officials have unleashed a sharp critique of California Governor Gavin Newsom after a devastating incident in Florida left three Americans dead at the hands of an illegal alien truck driver.

According to Breitbart News, Harjinder Singh, an illegal alien from India, was charged with vehicular homicide following a fatal crash in St. Lucie County, Florida, caused by an illegal U-turn while driving a semi truck.

This isn’t just a tragic accident; it’s a policy failure, say critics at the Department of Homeland Security, who lay the blame squarely at Newsom’s feet for sanctuary laws that allowed Singh to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License in California. The question now is how such a preventable disaster slipped through the cracks of state governance.

DHS Slams Sanctuary Policies as Deadly Oversight

DHS spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin didn’t mince words, stating, “Three innocent people were killed in Florida because Gavin Newsom’s California Department of Motor Vehicles issued an illegal alien a Commercial Driver’s License — this state of governance is asinine.” Her pointed remark cuts to the heart of a broader debate about sanctuary policies prioritizing political posturing over public safety.

McLaughlin further pressed the issue, asking, “How many more innocent people must die before Gavin Newsom stops playing games with the safety of the American public?” Her frustration echoes a growing sentiment that lax state laws are costing American lives while federal agencies scramble to clean up the mess.

Video footage of the crash, widely circulated online, shows Singh executing the fatal U-turn with no apparent reaction as the victims’ vehicle collides with his truck. Such chilling indifference only fuels the argument that stricter vetting and enforcement could have kept this driver off the road.

California’s Driver’s License Law Under Fire

California’s decision to issue driver’s licenses to illegal aliens, a policy rooted in a 2013 law and expanded under Newsom in 2022, is now a lightning rod for criticism. Since 2015, over a million such licenses have been handed out, a statistic that DHS officials argue has deadly consequences far beyond state borders.

Singh, who benefited from this policy, was able to secure a Commercial Driver’s License despite his immigration status, a fact that enabled him to operate a semi truck with catastrophic results. Critics argue this isn’t just an administrative oversight but a deliberate choice to ignore federal immigration standards.

Newsom’s office attempted to deflect blame, pointing fingers at the Trump administration for Singh’s license approval in 2018, but DHS quickly set the record straight. McLaughlin clarified on X that Singh’s work authorization was rejected in 2020 under Trump, only to be approved under Biden in 2021, while California alone bears responsibility for issuing the license.

Federal Response and Calls for Accountability

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has stepped in, placing a detainer on Singh to ensure he remains in custody while facing vehicular homicide charges. This move signals a federal push to prevent further lapses as the case unfolds in Florida’s courts.

Yet, the larger issue remains unresolved: how many more tragedies must occur before state policies align with national security priorities? DHS insists it’s working tirelessly to protect the public and remove criminal illegal aliens, but they can’t do it alone when states like California undermine those efforts.

McLaughlin’s plea for the victims and their families, coupled with her call for Newsom to stop endangering Americans, underscores a dire need for accountability. Sanctuary policies may sound compassionate on paper, but their real-world impact, as seen in this heartbreaking crash, tells a far grimmer story.

Time to Rethink State-Level Immigration Gambles

The loss of three American lives in St. Lucie County isn’t just a statistic; it’s a wake-up call for those who champion policies that flout federal immigration laws. If state leaders like Newsom continue to prioritize ideology over safety, the body count will only rise, and families will keep paying the ultimate price.

While empathy for individual circumstances is important, it cannot come at the expense of basic protections for citizens, a balance that seems lost in California’s current approach.

DHS’s sharp rebuke of Newsom isn’t just political theater; it’s a demand for a serious reckoning before more blood is spilled on our highways.
