Karoline Leavitt faces backlash over edited Halloween photos of husband

White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, at just 28, has landed in hot water over a seemingly innocent Halloween post that’s got social media buzzing with accusations of digital trickery.

Leavitt shared festive family photos on Instagram last Sunday, featuring herself, her 59-year-old husband Nicholas Riccio, and their adorable 16-month-old son Niko, only to spark a firestorm of criticism over apparent edits to Riccio’s appearance, the Daily Mail reported.

Before the online drama unfolded, Leavitt and her family joined a Halloween celebration on the South Lawn of the White House last Thursday, a charming event decked out with jack-o-lanterns, pumpkins, and faux autumn leaves.

Halloween at the White House Shines

During the celebration, former President Donald Trump and Melania Trump handed out candy to families, including Leavitt, Riccio, and little Niko, who stole hearts in a pumpkin costume.

Trump, fresh from a five-day trip abroad to Malaysia, Japan, and South Korea, spent over an hour distributing chocolate bars to kids dressed as astronauts and fast-food workers, even reviving a playful 2019 trick-or-treat gag by bopping a marshmallow-costumed child with candy.

Melania, elegant in a beige and orange trench coat, joined Trump as a military string ensemble played Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” setting a festive tone for the event at the White House’s southern entrance.

Social Media Spots a Digital Trick

Fast forward to Sunday, when Leavitt posted her Halloween snapshots on Instagram, racking up over 235,000 likes by Monday evening among her 2.6 million followers.

But the admiration quickly turned to scrutiny as users pointed out Riccio’s unusually smooth complexion in the images, a stark contrast to the more natural shots captured by press photographers at the White House event.

Comments poured in, with one user quipping, “The airbrushing of your hub's face to make him appear younger was the trick,” highlighting the growing suspicion of photo editing on Leavitt’s post.

Public Criticism Meets Silent Response

Another follower chimed in, noting, “Karoline, awesome picture, but my friends noticed something: The guy on the left seems to have only his face photoshopped,” adding fuel to the digital alteration debate.

Let’s be frank: in an era where every pixel is policed by the progressive image police, a little smoothing might seem harmless, but for a public figure like Leavitt, who’s built a reputation on transparency since taking her role earlier this year, the silence on this matter raises eyebrows.

Leavitt hasn’t addressed the criticism or confirmed if the photos were tweaked, leaving her followers to speculate whether this was a harmless family moment or a calculated image polish.

Behind the Personal Story of Leavitt

On a warmer note, Leavitt has been candid about her bond with Riccio, a real-estate developer from her home state of New Hampshire, describing their journey as “a very atypical love story” during an interview on The Megyn Kelly Show in March.

The couple, who welcomed Niko in July of the prior year and married six months later, share a partnership Leavitt cherishes, once saying of Riccio, “He is my greatest supporter, he's my best friend, and he's my rock,” on the same show.

While personal sweetness abounds, the public still craves clarity on the photo fiasco—because in today’s culture of overzealous judgment, even a Halloween snapshot can turn into a political pumpkin-smashing contest.
