Elderly hunter rescued after 20 days lost in California wilderness

Website Title: Elderly hunter rescued after 20 days lost in California wilderness

A 65-year-old hunter who went missing in California’s Sierra National Forest has been found alive after nearly three weeks in the wilderness.

Ron Dailey set out on what was supposed to be a quick hunting trip, but a vehicle breakdown and the unforgiving terrain left him stranded and walking for survival over 20 harrowing days, as CBN reports.

Dailey’s trip into the Sierra National Forest started with a routine plan: hunt for a day and return home. But the mission took a devastating turn when his vehicle became disabled and he lost all means of navigation.

Hunter Turns to Faith as Days Drag On

With the vehicle damaged beyond use, Dailey initially used it as a temporary shelter. He survived on food he had packed for only two weeks before it ran dry, forcing him to start walking through unfamiliar and unforgiving terrain.

He eventually lost his cellphone during the ordeal, cutting off communication entirely. Out of options and strength, he pressed on, leaning heavily on his personal faith with each step.

“You either try to walk out or you're going to sit here and die,” Dailey told reporters, bluntly summarizing his brutal options while wandering the woods. This wasn’t a poetic survival tale—it was grit and prayer.

A Wife’s Prayers and a Statewide Search

Back home, Glenda Dailey never gave up hope. She launched an awareness campaign on Facebook, sharing flyers and updates daily in a tireless effort to keep her husband’s face in the public eye.

“I want to thank everyone for all the support and love that we received while we patiently waited for Ron,” she wrote, relying on community resolve while law enforcement continued the official search.

Though trained rescue teams were on alert, it was ultimately fellow hunters—not helicopters or satellites—who found him. It was a grassroots rescue that could’ve been missed entirely in a world too obsessed with high tech and not enough with high character.

Staggering to the End With One Last Prayer

Dailey's legs began failing him toward the final stretch. He dropped to the ground, recited one more prayer—“I can’t hardly walk anymore, Lord, you gotta help me Father God”—and waited as the darkness surrounded him.

In an almost cinematic moment, he looked up and saw headlights glimmering through the trees. “I raised my head up, there was a car with headlights on and I went, ‘Oh God, thank you, Lord,’” Dailey recounted. And just like that, the nightmare had ended.

After being rescued, he was taken in for medical monitoring and found to be weakened but stable. Doctors are keeping a watchful eye as he recovers physically from the trauma, although spiritually, he appears stronger than ever.

Rescued by Chance or by Design?

Glenda believes divine intervention was the ultimate rescuer. “God still does miracles, and we have just been shown one,” she posted online. Her words were more than emotion—they were conviction.

In a country where faith is increasingly treated like a superstition instead of a strength, Dailey’s story is a quiet rebuke to secular cynicism. When all comforts and conveniences failed, what carried him through wasn’t technology—it was tenacity and the belief that God wasn’t done with him yet.

He might be resting now, but his family says he’ll soon be ready to share more about what he endured. If nothing else, his ordeal reminds us that some stories are still written by hand—and often guided by something higher.
