Tragic Discovery Of South Side Pastor In River Mourns Community

Rev. Warren Beard, 53, an assistant pastor from Chicago, tragically drowned in his submerged vehicle in the Des Plaines River, shocking his community and family.

The Chicago Tribune reported the discovery on July 11, concluding the distressing search for Beard, who was last seen a month earlier.

Beard, known for his deep commitment to his faith and community, drove his Honda HR-V off the Brandon Road bridge into the river, a location currently closed for traffic. His absence since June 2 had sparked widespread concern and efforts to locate him.

During a news conference, the Rockdale Fire District reported spotting the submerged vehicle about 150 yards west of Brandon Road by the approaching evening.

Despite earlier attempts to find Beard, the murky waters and intense barge traffic in the area delayed recovery operations, complicating the efforts of rescue teams.

Regional Church Leaders Express Heartache Over Loss

The senior pastor at New Israelite Missionary Baptist Church, Rev. Chenier Alston, described the loss of Beard as devastating to everyone who knew him. Their last interaction occurred on June 2, ending with mutual expressions of love.

Reflecting on Beard's profound impact on his personal and professional life, Alston said, "I can't even put into words how painful it is. We lost a man who loved his wife, loved his children, loved his family, a man who loved God with everything in him, a man who was passionate about his faith."

The congregation and broader community deeply felt the loss of Beard, recognizing his devout faithfulness and commitment to service.

Investigation and Autopsy Reveal No Foul Play

The Will County coroner's office swiftly conducted an autopsy on July 12 following the discovery, indicating no foul play in Beard's unfortunate demise, pending a complete report.

Officials observed from the last video surveillance on July 2 that Beard's car veered off the closed bridge into the water. Rockdale's Deputy Police Chief Robert Baikie commented on the retrieval challenges due to environmental conditions.

It was confirmed that Beard was alone in the vehicle during the accident.

Lasting Legacy and Community Contribution

Aside from his pastoral duties, Beard earned reverence for his role as the regional director of facilities at Preservation of Affordable Housing, reflecting his dedication to improving community living conditions through his six-year tenure at the church and his professional roles.

He leaves behind a grieving family, including five children, who, along with many churchgoers and colleagues, grapple with the sudden tragedy.

Chicago police are continuing their investigation into the exact circumstances surrounding the accident. Updates have yet to be provided since the discovery, leaving the community anxious for answers.

A Life Marked By Faith and Devotion

As the investigation continues, those who knew Rev. Warren Beard vividly remember him as a steadfast man of faith, devoted father, and community servant. His sudden departure leaves a void that echoes his teachings and the deep love he had for his community.

Beard's family, colleagues, and the community are struggling to reconcile his passionate life with his untimely and mysterious passing.

Everyone eagerly awaits authorities' conclusions to find closure for this profound loss.

In conclusion, the tragic loss of Rev. Warren Beard deeply resonates within his community and beyond, highlighting his significant contributions and the mysterious circumstances surrounding his disappearance and discovery. His legacy, characterized by faith and dedication, will be enduringly cherished by family, friends, and the many lives he touched.
