Accusations Arise Against Pastor After Protest Incident

An unsettling controversy now surrounds Pastor John-Paul Miller of Solid Rock at Market Common church in South Carolina, as authorities accuse him of assaulting a protester amid growing demands for accountability following his wife's suicide.

Pastor Miller's actions during a protest at a South Carolina college have led to his arrest and subsequent release from custody, the Christian Post reported.

Demonstrators, including the alleged victim Sandra Caron, gathered at Horry-Georgetown Technical College's campus in The Market Common, Myrtle Beach, to demand greater transparency and justice regarding the circumstances of Mica Miller’s suicide, the pastor’s late wife.

Details of the Altercation During the Protest

According to Caron, during the protest, the confrontation escalated when Pastor Miller approached her while she was wearing a baseball cap. She claims that the pastor struck her cap with his phone, an action captured on video. Caron recounted to WMBF that Miller was aggressive, provoking her as he inquired, "What are you going to do about it?"

Following the incident, Myrtle Beach Police took action by charging Pastor Miller with third-degree assault and battery. His attorney, Russell Long, defended him by suggesting that the accusations were part of a larger issue where the community continued to target Miller. Long stated, “They’ve driven the church to death, and they’re trying to drive him to death.”

Complex Background of Personal Tragedy

This legal battle comes months after Pastor Miller faced the loss of his wife, Mica, who died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. Before her tragic death, she had been in the process of divorcing Pastor Miller. The divorce papers were served on him only days before she was found dead.

The divorce initiated by Mica in October 2023 was dismissed by February of the following year. Subsequently, both she and Pastor Miller sought separate support, indicating ongoing marital strife. Sierra Francis, Mica's sister, expressed substantial fears for Mica’s safety during these proceedings.

According to Sierra Francis’s affidavit, Mica had communicated grave concerns about her well-being post-divorce, fearing she might not survive the process. "If I end up with a bullet in my head, it was not by me, it was JP,” Mica allegedly told her sister, as shared by Francis on social media platform X.

Tensions Escalate with Legal and Family Drama

The pastor’s troubled times extended beyond the personal loss and local legal problems. Notably, months after his wife's demise, the FBI executed a search at a residence linked to Miller, where they seized various items, including computer equipment, further adding layers of complexity to his legal entanglements.

Meanwhile, as debates about the incident and the pastor’s broader controversies rage, the community remains deeply divided. Specifically, Caron’s public outcry and the detailed testimony from Mica’s sister represent a compelling call for deeper evaluations of the circumstances surrounding these intertwined personal and public tragedies.

As this evolving story continues to unfold, both legal outcomes and community responses remain pending. Undoubtedly, local supporters and critics of Pastor Miller are watching closely, awaiting the next developments.
