Actor Julian Sands officially declared dead, police confirm remains found were those of the late actor

British actor Julian Sands, known for his roles in films and TV shows like "A Room With a View," "The Killing Fields," "24," and "Smallville," has been officially declared dead after remains found in southern California were identified as his.

The news was confirmed by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s office, which issued a press release stating that the remains found on Mt. Baldy were indeed those of the 65-year-old actor. The full story can be read on The Daily Wire.

Sands had been missing since January, and the discovery of his remains came after hikers stumbled upon them over the weekend. The identification process was completed on Tuesday, and the manner of his death is still under investigation, pending further test results.

The search for Julian Sands

News of Sands' death comes after a long and extensive search operation. The actor went missing in January while hiking in the Mt. Baldy wilderness. Despite the efforts of over 80 Search and Rescue volunteers, deputies, staff, two helicopters, and drone crews, Sands was not located.

The search was hampered by extreme alpine conditions, with steep terrain and ravines still covered in over 10 feet of ice and snow. Despite these challenges, the search teams continued their efforts, inserting teams into remote areas and conducting aerial search and assessment efforts.

The sheriff’s office expressed gratitude to all the volunteers who worked tirelessly to locate Mr. Sands. The search operation included eight ground and air searches since January, with more than 500 volunteer searcher hours dedicated to finding the actor.

Family's statement on Sands' death

Following the confirmation of Sands' death, his family released a statement expressing their gratitude to the sheriff’s office for resuming the search after extreme alpine conditions had hampered efforts over the last few months.

"We continue to hold Julian in our hearts with bright memories of him as a wonderful father, husband, explorer, lover of the natural world and the arts, and as an original and collaborative performer,"

His family poured out into the world with a heartfelt statement.
