Biden attacks Supreme Court after Affirmative Action decision: "This is not a normal court"

President Joe Biden has expressed strong disapproval of the U.S. Supreme Court's decision to eliminate racial preferences in college admissions, describing the court as "not normal".

This news comes from a recent article on Breitbart, where it was reported that Biden held a press event to respond to the court's ruling in the case of Students for Fair Admissions v. President and Fellows of Harvard College. In this case, a group representing Asian-American students sued Harvard and the University of North Carolina over their affirmative action programs.

The Supreme Court decided against racial preferences in college admissions that could not meet the "strict scrutiny" standards of the Constitution's Fourteenth Amendment. President Biden criticized this decision, arguing that it interfered with colleges' discretion over how best to achieve diversity within their student bodies.

Biden's alternative: The adversity standard

In response to the court's decision, Biden proposed an alternative standard for admission, an "adversity" standard. This would examine an applicant's socioeconomic circumstances and the difficulties they had to overcome to qualify for college. According to Biden, all applicants that met the academic standards for admission should then be measured by the "adversity" they had experienced. However, he did not explain how "adversity" might be an unconstitutional proxy for racial criteria.

Biden, with a firm pound on the lectern, vowed to continue fighting for what he described as America's core values. He expressed his strong disagreement with the court's decision and his commitment to promoting diversity in education.

As Biden finished his remarks and began to leave the lectern, a journalist asked whether the current Supreme Court was a "rogue" court. Biden responded, "This is not a normal court." He did not respond to a follow-up question from the same journalist asking about the idea of imposing term limits on Supreme Court justices.

Following the press event, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre informed reporters aboard Air Force One to New York that the Department of Justice would join the Department of Education in advising colleges about lawful ways to advance diversity in admissions. She also mentioned that the White House would host a summit on the issue.

Will there be changes to the Supreme Court?

Reporters continued to press Jean-Pierre on whether the President would back changes to the Supreme Court. However, no definitive answer was given. This leaves open the question of whether Biden will push for reforms to the Supreme Court in response to its decision on affirmative action.

The implications of this decision and Biden's response are significant. It not only affects the future of college admissions but also raises questions about the role and nature of the Supreme Court.

As this story continues to unfold, it will be important to watch for further developments and reactions.
