Biden, Harris Alleged to Manipulate Border Data in Key Swing State

In light of the upcoming elections, the Biden administration faces accusations of distorting data related to U.S. border control.

Art Del Cueto, a key figure in the National Border Patrol Council, claims the Biden-Harris administration's publicized data on migrant encounters is misleading, as the Daily Mail reports.

The concern centers around the recent statistics distributed by U.S. Customs and Border Protection, which indicate a decline in migrant encounters.

These figures are contrasted by the reality on the ground, as explained by Del Cueto, the vice president of the National Border Patrol Council and a former Border Patrol agent. Del Cueto expresses skepticism about the accuracy of these numbers during his interview with Mail.

Del Cueto argues that while reported encounters have decreased, the number of undocumented migrants who successfully evade capture -- termed "gotaways" -- remains a critical but underreported challenge. This problem, he says, distorts the public’s understanding of the true scope of border breaches.

Data Discrepancies Highlighted Amid Election Season

With Arizona positioned as a battleground state, the issue of immigration and border security is particularly pronounced.

Del Cueto further backs his claims by referring to an event that he attended with former President Donald Trump at the U.S.-Mexico border in Sierra Vista, Arizona, on Aug. 22. The event underscored ongoing concerns about border policy and security measures.

This visit came at a time when the Biden administration released figures suggesting a stabilization in illegal border crossings, akin to levels seen during the Trump presidency. However, Del Cueto cautioned about these figures, mentioning that roughly 58,000 migrant encounters had been noted in July alone.

Challenges in Tracking Undocumented Migrants

The method of counting "gotaways" has drawn particular scrutiny. Del Cueto described the technique as primarily based on the interpretation of footprints left at border crossings, a method he criticizes for its lack of precision. This approximation, according to him, could misrepresent the true number of individuals who manage to enter the U.S. undetected.

He elaborates on the rates of those getting away, citing historical data to suggest that during previous administrations, the rate of getaways was estimated at 60%. Del Cueto's narrative suggests an ongoing struggle to determine accurate data about these undocumented crossings, complicating efforts to form effective border strategies.

Uncertainty and Complaints Around Border Security

Security breaches at the border, especially in areas known for a high number of getaways, add another layer of complexity to the issue. Del Cueto highlighted breaches he witnessed along the border wall, noting that such incidents appear to be increasing under current policies.

Specifically, on the day Del Cueto and Trump visited the border, Border Patrol detained 36 migrants in a segment near Sasabe, Arizona, spotlighting the persistent challenge authorities face in these high-traffic regions.

Amid these operational challenges, Del Cueto remains critical of the administration's portrayal of border security. He claims the Biden administration has understated the seriousness of the situation to foster a perception of control and effectiveness as election pressures mount.

"Gotaways" Count: A Question of Accuracy

Addressing the discrepancies in reported numbers, Del Cueto asserts that the difference between the official count of migrant encounters and the realities observed by border patrol agents reveals significant gaps in the government's reporting system.

The former agent's remarks underscore a deep-seated issue of transparency and accuracy in how migrant data is handled. With the government estimated to acknowledge about two million "getaways," Del Cueto disputes these figures, suggesting that they barely scratch the surface of the actual number.

Furthermore, Del Cueto's insights into the methods employed to estimate "getaways" highlight a systemic problem that could mislead both policymakers and the public about the effectiveness of border controls.

Conclusion and Ongoing Debates on Border Policy

As the election nears, the handling of immigration and border security data remains a contentious topic. Del Cueto's allegations suggest a manipulation of data to present a more favorable view of the situation at a critical time.

The effective management of border security continues to challenge U.S. authorities, with "getaways" presenting a key issue that seems obscured in official statistics. The upcoming elections may further intensify scrutiny of how these matters are handled by those in power.
