Ceasefire collapses as Israel raids Gaza after hostage deadlock

In a dramatic escalation of hostilities, Israeli airstrikes have decimated senior Hamas leadership in the Gaza Strip, signaling the end of a ceasefire.

According to Fox News, Israeli forces launched a series of airstrikes on the Gaza Strip, killing several high-ranking Hamas leaders after the collapse of ceasefire negotiations on Tuesday.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) and Israel Security Agency (ISA) confirmed the elimination of Essam al-Da'alis, who served as head of the Hamas government and was considered the highest-ranking authority figure in Gaza. Three other senior Hamas officials were also reportedly killed in the strikes.

Hamas Leadership Takes Significant Hit in Renewed Offensive

Israeli military forces struck dozens of terror targets throughout Gaza, focusing on the military and governmental capabilities of Hamas.

The operation successfully eliminated multiple key figures, including Mahmoud Marzouk Ahmed Abu-Watfa, Minister of Internal Affairs, Bahajat Hassan Mohammed Abu-Sultan, Head of Internal Security Forces, and Ahmed Amar Abdullah Alhata, Minister of Justice.

The Hamas-run Gaza health ministry reported at least 404 Palestinian casualties, including women and children, though these numbers have not been independently verified. Israeli officials emphasized their commitment to continuing military operations until all hostages are released and war objectives are achieved.

Defense Minister Israel Katz issued a stern warning to Hamas, stating that failure to release all hostages would result in unprecedented military action against the terrorist organization. The Israeli military has also ordered civilians to evacuate eastern Gaza and move toward the central region, suggesting possible ground operations.

International Response to Renewed Conflict

President Donald Trump's administration expressed support for Israel's decision to end the ceasefire. National Security Council spokesman Brian Hughes placed responsibility for the renewed hostilities squarely on Hamas, noting their refusal to release additional hostages.

Hamas responded by condemning Netanyahu's government and calling for urgent intervention from the United Nations and Security Council. The terrorist organization demanded an immediate halt to Israeli military operations and complete withdrawal from Gaza.

Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz declared:

Tonight, we returned to fighting in Gaza due to Hamas' refusal to release the hostages and threats to harm IDF soldiers and Israeli communities. If Hamas does not release all the hostages, the gates of hell will open in Gaza, and Hamas' murderers and rapists will meet the IDF with forces they have never known before.

Strategic Military Operations Beyond Gaza

The Israeli military expanded its operations beyond Gaza, conducting strikes in southern Lebanon and southern Syria.

These additional operations targeted terrorists allegedly planning attacks against Israel, demonstrating the broader scope of Israel's military strategy.

Netanyahu's office confirmed that the renewed offensive came after Hamas rejected multiple proposals from Trump administration special envoy Steve Witkoff and other mediators.

The terrorist organization insisted on maintaining its original demands for a complete Israeli withdrawal from Gaza and a permanent end to hostilities.

Previous Ceasefire Agreement Impact

The collapsed ceasefire had lasted nearly two months, during which dozens of hostages were freed in exchange for almost 2,000 Palestinian prisoners. This arrangement had temporarily paused the 17-month-long conflict between Israel and Hamas.

Israeli military officials conducted a situational assessment following the strikes, resulting in the closure of schools and educational activities in the Gaza Envelope region. The decision reflects ongoing security concerns and the potential for escalation in the conflict zone.

Understanding Current Military Developments

The IDF has launched preemptive strikes targeting mid-ranking military commanders, leadership officials, and terrorist infrastructure belonging to Hamas. Israeli officials confirmed that the military offensive will continue indefinitely and expand beyond initial air strikes.

After Hamas' refusal to release remaining hostages and Netanyahu's commitment to destroying Hamas' governing and military capabilities, the region faces potential prolonged conflict. The situation remains fluid as Israeli forces maintain pressure on Hamas while managing humanitarian concerns in Gaza.
