DeSantis is not considering RFK Jr. for running mate

Florida's Governor Ron DeSantis, who is seen as a potential contender for the 2024 presidential race, has recently expressed his willingness to consider Robert F. Kennedy Jr. for a significant role in a health agency, despite ruling him out as a potential running mate.

During a recent interview, DeSantis shared his thoughts on the possible roles RFK Jr. could play in his administration, as reported by the Washington Examiner.

DeSantis's perspective on RFK Jr.'s potential role

In a comprehensive interview with Clay Travis on Outkick, DeSantis delved into his views on RFK Jr.

He acknowledged that he finds RFK Jr.'s perspective on numerous medical issues appealing.

However, he also pointed out that there are a multitude of other areas where RFK Jr.'s views might not be in sync with the beliefs of his political base.

"Sic him on the FDA if he's willing to serve, or sic him on the CDC," DeSantis said, "but in terms of being veep, if there's 70% of the issues that he may be averse to our base on, you know, that just creates an issue."

DeSantis's comments highlight the complexity of political alliances and the delicate balancing act involved in choosing political appointees.

While he appreciates RFK Jr.'s views on certain medical issues, he is also acutely aware of the potential discord that could arise from appointing someone who might not fully align with his base's views.

RFK Jr.'s contentious views on vaccines

RFK Jr., currently running for president as a Democrat, has been the subject of considerable criticism due to his skepticism towards vaccines.

This has become a particularly contentious issue in the midst of the ongoing pandemic. Despite the criticism, RFK Jr. has remained steadfast in his views, pushing back against online and media censorship of his activism and claims.

He has consistently maintained that he is not against all vaccines.

"Desantis said he would not choose RFK Jr as a running mate, but would consider him to be in charge of the FDA or CDC “if he’d be willing to serve.” - Ron Filipkowski, Twitter post

RFK Jr.'s stance on vaccines has been a focal point of his public image, and it's clear that his views have been a significant factor in DeSantis's consideration of him for a potential role in his administration.

RFK Jr.'s moderate approach to other healthcare issues

In contrast to many of his Democratic peers, RFK Jr. has positioned himself as a moderate on a number of other healthcare issues.

For example, last month, he expressed that although he supports the right to abortion, he views every abortion as "a tragedy."

This moderate stance on such a divisive issue is indicative of RFK Jr.'s broader approach to healthcare, which appears to be more nuanced and balanced than some of his counterparts.

This could potentially make him an appealing choice for a role in a health agency, as it suggests a willingness to consider multiple perspectives and find middle ground.
