Former GA Democrat political candidate arrested in child sex trafficking sting

Carl Sprayberry, a failed candidate for Georgia’s State House who had previously attracted controversy over his extreme comments about former President Donald Trump, has been arrested in a major child sex trafficking operation.

A comprehensive law enforcement operation, "Operation Lights Out," resulted in the arrest of Sprayberry -- who once called for violence against Trump -- as well as others, and all are now charged with grave offenses related to child exploitation, as Breitbart reports.

In November 2024, Sprayberry campaigned unsuccessfully for a seat in the Georgia State House. His candidacy was shadowed by his controversial past, particularly his online comments that violently targeted Trump, suggesting that he committed high treason and calling for lethal action if Congress failed to intervene.

His arrest came about during "Operation Lights Out," a significant sting operation which took place from April 24 to April 28. This operation was aimed at cracking down on child sex trafficking and involved extensive planning over several months by various agencies.

The sting was a collaboration of 12 law enforcement groups, including the Georgia Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), and the Muscogee County Sheriff's Office. Their efforts were focused on capturing individuals engaged in unlawful sexual activities with minors.

Operation's scope, strategy emerges

The operation’s main strategy was to intercept and arrest those communicating sexually with minors over social media, messaging apps, and other online platforms. It targeted those attempting to arrange meetings with minors with the intent of exploiting them sexually.

Both boys and girls were victims in these predatory schemes, highlighting the disturbing reach of this illegal activity.

The operation's extensive nature shows the commitment of law enforcement to combat these severe crimes.

Sheriff Greg Countryman of Muscogee County emphasized the persistence of such predators and the ongoing risk they pose.

He made a public plea urging parents to vigilantly monitor their children's online interactions to safeguard them from potential harm.

Sheriff describes sting's purpose

Sheriff Countryman voiced deep concern about the proactive steps needed to protect children: “These predators will travel from near and far to victimize your children. We take these crimes against children very seriously. It will be our focus to find these predators so they may be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” he stated.

Conversely, Sprayberry’s past comments paint a starkly different character from that of the sheriff. One of his more aggressive posts included a direct threat: “Donald Trump has committed an act of High Treason. Should Congress refuse to take action, he will be killed by the people, as per the Second Amendment’s existence.” He also suggested on social media that a Secret Service agent should take lethal action against Trump.

Among those also arrested in the sting were Marquise Anderson, Roger Burkes, and Javious Davenport.

Each faced charges related to child exploitation, although details about their specific activities and roles within the trafficking ring were not disclosed in the operation’s reports.

Future implications continue to evolve

The charges that Sprayberry faces are severe and symbolize a significant fall from his previous political aspirations. This arrest raises numerous questions about the integrity and background examinations conducted on major party political candidates.

This case not only underscores the pervasive issue of child exploitation but also serves as a critical reminder of the potential dangers lurking online where predators may exploit the anonymity and accessibility of digital platforms to commit their crimes.

The implications of "Operation Lights Out" are far-reaching, potentially setting a precedent for similar future law enforcement collaborations.

The effectiveness of these concerted efforts could potentially reshape how child exploitation and trafficking are addressed nationwide.
