Former Suspension Aide Charged With Sexual Misconduct
A former middle school staff member and listed pastor has been taken into custody in connection with an alleged sexual offense involving a 13-year-old student.
Devin Carroll, a 22-year-old former school employee and religious leader, was arrested Saturday by Conway Police on a charge of third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor following an incident reported at Conway Middle School on May 29, 2025, WRAL NEWS reported.
The arrest took place in Horry County, South Carolina, where Carroll had been working at Conway Middle School as an in-school suspension aide. This role placed him in regular contact with students as part of school disciplinary operations.
School district officials have confirmed Carroll’s position at the school. According to Horry County Schools, Carroll had submitted his resignation earlier this year, with the resignation scheduled to take effect on June 7, 2025.
Just before the end of the school year, on May 29, a report was made regarding inappropriate contact involving a student. That report led to an investigation, which culminated in the arrest made by Conway Police last weekend.
Allegations Include Inappropriate Contact With Student
The details outlined in the arrest warrant allege that Carroll made physical contact with a 13-year-old child in a manner that authorities say was motivated by improper intentions. The warrant states that the contact occurred on the student’s private areas “with the intent of arousal.”
This alleged conduct resulted in Carroll being charged under South Carolina law with third-degree criminal sexual conduct involving a minor. Such charges typically involve non-consensual touching and carry the possibility of significant legal penalties if convicted.
Carroll's religious involvement has added further community interest to the case. He was listed as the pastor of Happy Home Baptist Church, which is located in Columbus County, North Carolina, according to available public listings before the incident.
Religious Ties Draw Additional Attention
Carroll’s religious background reportedly includes being ordained at a church in Conway in 2023. Before that, he participated in activities with a church located in Loris, South Carolina, in 2022.
As of Wednesday, the church website linked to Carroll shows only the church's location, without any biographical or program information. No official statement has been issued by the church regarding his arrest or the charges filed.
The blend of Carroll's former professional role in education and his religious leadership has caused concern among community members and parents. Both spheres of his life involved working closely with youth.
Bond Posted Following Detention
Following his weekend arrest, Carroll was processed at J. Reuben Long Detention Center. According to jail records, he was released on bond sometime after his intake.
The bond was set at $30,000, a typical amount for charges of this nature under local policy. No trial date has been publicly announced yet, and Carroll has not issued any public comment addressing the allegations.
Investigators have not confirmed whether there are any additional incidents under review involving Carroll. School officials have stated they are cooperating with authorities as the criminal process unfolds.
School District Addresses the Case
In response to the arrest, Horry County Schools stated they were aware of the ongoing investigation and confirmed Carroll’s employment status. The district noted that his resignation was submitted months before the alleged incident occurred.
It remains unclear whether school leadership had any initial warning signs based on Carroll’s conduct while employed. The district has not released further details concerning internal reviews or policy changes related to employee supervision.
The Conway Police Department continues to lead the investigation into the case. With charges filed and bond posted, the matter will now proceed through the judicial system, where additional facts may emerge.
