G3 Ministries leader Josh Buice steps down amid slander scandal

In a shocking revelation, Josh Buice has resigned from his roles following admissions of secretly attacking other Christian leaders.

After three years of using pseudonyms to criticize peers, G3 Ministries president Josh Buice has conceded to these actions, prompting his resignation and the cancellation of a key religious conference, the Christian Post reported.

Josh Buice, the now former president of G3 Ministries, served diligently as an elder at Pray's Mill Baptist Church in Douglasville, Georgia. Buice was respected in his community and recognized for his leadership until recent events revealed a darker undertone to his online activities.

Investigations uncovered that Buice operated four anonymous social media profiles, two email addresses, and two Substack accounts. Through these, he spread negative and false information about various Christian figures, including some who had previously aligned with his ministry at G3 conferences.

The Undeniable Proof that Toppled a Ministry Leader

The evidence, which highlighted three years of deceit, was so compelling that the elder body at Pray's Mill Baptist Church confronted Buice. On a Sunday evening in early May, elders challenged him after a rigorous investigation into the unsettling online behavior.

Buice's response was initially one of denial. For over two hours, he refuted any involvement in the dissemination of these slanderous messages. However, as the confrontational meeting progressed with significant persuasion from the elders, Buice admitted to his wrongdoings.

His confession was a turning point. Buice expressed remorse for his actions and sought forgiveness from those he had targeted. This admission of guilt was crucial in his decision to step down from his pastoral and organizational leadership positions.

Immediate Reactions and Repercussions

Following these revelations and the subsequent confession, the board of G3 Ministries urged Buice to resign, a proposal he accepted on May 8, 2025. The board finalized the resignation unanimously, underscoring the gravity of his actions and their impact on the ministry's reputation.

An official statement from G3 mentioned the cancellation of the G3 National Conference, which was scheduled for September 2025, along with all workshops planned for that year. They assured that refunds would be processed for everyone who had registered.

This turn of events has brought a renewed focus within G3 Ministries towards avoiding the pitfalls of celebrity culture in evangelical circles. They pledged to refocus their efforts on biblical content publication as a way forward.

Sifting Through the Aftermath of a Spiritual Scandal

The elders at Pray's Mill Baptist Church, deeply affected by the disruptions caused, stated this was both "sinful and deeply divisive." They voiced that such actions foster suspicion and strife, particularly shaking the unity within the eldership itself.

In light of his acknowledged missteps, the church has decided on an indefinite leave for Buice from his pastoral duties. They are presently contemplating a more detailed pathway regarding his future involvement, citing his actions as disqualifying him from elder responsibilities for the time being.

The response to Buice's conduct and the church's handling of the situation has elicited mixed reactions within the wider Christian community. Justin Peters, a well-known theologian, described the situation as "heartbreaking" and underscored the wide-reaching consequences of sin.

Community Reactions Reflect Diverse Opinions

Contrastingly, Jennifer Greenberg offered a critical viewpoint on the matter, hinting at underlying issues within the broader evangelistic community. She suggested that such scandals are not only about sin but also reflect personal conflicts and power dynamics within the church leadership.

As the Christian community grapples with the ramifications of this scandal, there is an underlying call to realign with core biblical teachings and principles. This event has not only affected those directly slandered but has sent ripples throughout the faith community, urging a reflective assessment of leadership and integrity.

Looking forward, both G3 Ministries and Pray's Mill Baptist Church, which left the Southern Baptist Convention in 2022, face the challenge of rebuilding trust and reinforcing their commitment to upholding the virtues they preach.
