God's role cited in Trump rally incident by evangelical advisor
Speaking to a room of evangelical leaders in Washington, D.C., televangelist Paula White-Cain credited divine power for what she described as a miraculous intervention that saved former President Donald Trump’s life.
At the Faith & Freedom Coalition’s Road to Majority Conference on June 27, 2025, Trump spiritual advisor Paula White-Cain told attendees that the former president’s survival of a 2024 assassination attempt was not by accident but a result of an act of God, the Christian Post reported.
The annual political gathering, held at a convention center in the nation’s capital, brought together conservative leaders, including White-Cain and Jennifer Korn, the director of the White House Faith Office. White-Cain, based in Florida, has served as one of Trump’s closest religious allies since his first presidential campaign in 2016.
Evangelical Figure Reflects on 2024 Rally
During her address, White-Cain recounted the events of July 2024, when a gunman fired shots at then-presidential candidate Trump during a campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania. One of the bullets grazed Trump’s ear, but he suffered no life-threatening injuries.
She shared that she had spoken at the previous year's Road to Majority Conference just three weeks before the incident. On the day of the attempt, White-Cain said she received a text that simply read, “the president’s been shot.”
In her speech, she emphasized her connection to Trump, saying, “That wasn’t just the president to me, that was my friend.” She expressed gratitude and said she felt his survival was far from ordinary.
Unexpected Changes Seen as Signs
The televangelist highlighted peculiar changes during the Butler event as evidence of divine orchestration. According to her, Trump ran late that day, and a campaign poster typically shown at the end of his speech was unusually displayed at the beginning.
More notably, White-Cain pointed out that the chart, which focused on illegal immigration, was placed on the opposite side of the stage from its usual location. “They put the chart up early; they put it up on the left. They always put it up on the right,” she said during her remarks to the conference audience.
White-Cain interpreted these oddities as more than logistics, stating, “That wasn't a coincidence. That was God's sovereign divine miracle.” Her message received nods and applause from many in attendance.
Past Statements Point to Faith
Trump had previously addressed the incident himself during his appearance at the 2024 Republican National Convention. At the time, he said, “I felt very safe because I had God on my side.”
He also told delegates, “I stand before you in this arena only by the grace of Almighty God,” reinforcing a narrative that divine intervention played a central role in the outcome.
The theme of Trump’s survival being more than mere chance was echoed by others in his circle. Former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Dr. Ben Carson shared similar views at the same convention.
Faith Leaders Share Unified Message
Carson, a retired neurosurgeon and long-time supporter of Trump, said during his speech, “I do not doubt that God lowered a shield of protection over President Trump.” His statement aligned with the views expressed by White-Cain and other faith leaders at the time.
The 2025 Road to Majority Conference served as a stage for reaffirming these sentiments among evangelical Christian attendees. The messages tied Trump's resilience to a shared religious conviction within parts of the conservative faith community.
Though interpretations of the July 2024 incident vary, White-Cain and others insisted the changes in rally details and Trump’s minor injury were signals of a larger spiritual significance rather than coincidental events.
Religious Support Plays Political Role
White-Cain first rose to prominence as co-founder of Without Walls International Church and later became a key figure in evangelical outreach during Trump’s 2016 campaign. Her relationship with the former president has continued into his post-presidency and 2024 campaign cycle.
Jennifer Korn, who directs the White House's faith-based initiatives, appeared alongside White-Cain at the conference. While Korn made fewer direct theological claims, her presence underscored the administration’s ongoing outreach to religious constituencies.
As the 2024 election season concluded and Trump re-entered the political spotlight, religious leaders close to him renewed efforts to present his experiences through the lens of faith and divine protection.
Looking Toward the Future
Following the Road to Majority Conference, attendees and speakers continued to share recordings and reflections via social media and church networks. The narrative of faith, survival, and strategic leadership remained central in these discussions.
With 2025 underway and political tensions still high, events and speeches like this have continued to shape religious and political discourse. White-Cain’s remarks are now part of a broader conversation among Trump supporters about providence, leadership, and destiny.
Meanwhile, critics and observers outside these communities continue to debate the political significance of attributing survival or policy to divine will. But for attendees of the conference, the message was rooted in spiritual conviction and unwavering support.
