GOP working to dismantle Biden’s ‘Catch and Release’ network
House Republicans are taking steps to counteract President Joe Biden's Catch and Release policy at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The GOP is actively working to dismantle the policy through a Continuing Resolution.
The Continuing Resolution, which aims to prevent a government shutdown on October 1, has been introduced by factions of the House Republican Conference. This measure is set to fund the federal government until the end of the following month.
Key provisions of the Continuing Resolution
Within this resolution, the GOP has incorporated significant parts of H.R. 2, the “Secure the Border Act.” The main objective of these inclusions is to counteract Biden's Catch and Release strategy at the border.
Some of the provisions in the bill are designed to block federal funds from being used to transport illegal aliens into the U.S. interior. Additionally, it aims to halt the CBP One app, which facilitates border crossings, and restrict funds used for Biden’s prosecutorial discretion policy for illegal aliens.
Furthermore, the bill seeks to prevent funds from being used for the mass release of border crossers awaiting their asylum hearings and to stop funding to Biden’s parole pipeline.
Reactions to the Continuing Resolution
RJ Hauman, president of the National Immigration Center for Enforcement (NICE) and a visiting advisor at the Heritage Foundation, shared his views with Breitbart. He stated that the resolution provides House Republicans with a clear path to defund Biden’s border policies.
Hauman emphasized the choice Republicans face: either support the CR containing most of H.R. 2 and strong immigration policies or risk exacerbating the border crisis. He posed a question for the Senate and White House, asking if they would prioritize addressing the border crisis or risk a government shutdown to maintain an open border.
Recent revelations from the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Inspector General, Joseph Cuffari, have added fuel to the fire. Cuffari disclosed that Biden’s Catch and Release network releases over 60,000 border crossers and illegal aliens into American communities monthly, Breitbart reported.
Impact on American communities
This release rate is equivalent to introducing a foreign population the size of New Orleans, Louisiana, to the U.S. every six months. Or, to put it another way, it's like adding a population the size of Seattle, Washington, every year.
DHS employs three primary methods to release border crossers and illegal aliens into the U.S. interior: Notices to Appear (NTAs), prosecutorial discretion, and Parole + ATD (Alternatives to Detention).
Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), chairman of a subcommittee that recently held a hearing on the impact of illegal immigration on American wages and jobs, expressed his concerns. He stated:
“America’s workforce cannot flourish with the unchecked, unfettered illegal immigration that is Biden’s border invasion.”
Robert Law from the America First Policy Institute (AFPI) testified about the consequences of the Biden administration’s policies. He highlighted the negative impact on jobless Americans due to the mass release of border crossers and illegal aliens.
