Illegal Immigrant Likely Responsible For Death Of Texas Teen

The quiet town of Edna, Texas, was shaken to its core by a tragedy that has sparked widespread concern and debate over community safety and immigration laws.

Lizbeth Medina, a 16-year-old cheerleader, was found murdered in her home, with the prime suspect being an illegal immigrant.

The Biden administration has come under fire for a perceived lack of efforts surrounding the border crisis, and many believe a stricter policy may have prevented the teen girl's death.

Lizbeth's story begins with a sense of normalcy known by a high school cheerleader growing up in a small Texas town. However, the peace was shattered on Dec. 5 when her mother, Jacqueline Medina, discovered her body in their bathtub, leading to an investigation that would uncover a series of disturbing events.

Discovery of a Tragedy

The Cottonwood Apartments, where Lizbeth lived, became the scene of a horrific crime. Police confirmed that Lizbeth had been stabbed multiple times, raising immediate questions about the motive and the perpetrator of this heinous act.

Investigations revealed a concerning backstory: approximately a month before her murder, Lizbeth's apartment had been burglarized.

Jacqueline Medina had noticed missing items, a prelude to the unfolding horror, Fox News reported.

The suspect, Rafael Govea Romero, a 23-year-old illegal immigrant, was arrested by the Edna Police Department in Schulenburg. Romero was charged with capital murder and is currently held on an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detainer, with his bond set at $2 million.

Stalking Preceded the Murder

Police believe Romero stalked Lizbeth before her murder, a terrifying thought for any parent. Jacqueline Medina, in her grief, struggled to understand how a stranger could target her daughter, questioning the intent behind the initial burglary.

"After this person was caught and [police] found those specific things that were missing, that's when I knew it was connected," Jacqueline Medina recalled, linking the burglary to her daughter's untimely death.

Evidence suggests that Lizbeth's phone, which showed suspicious activities post-mortem, might have been stolen by Romero. The phone's geolocation was crucial in leading to his arrest.

A Mother's Plea for Justice

Amidst her pain, Jacqueline Medina is channeling her grief into advocacy, hoping to spur changes in laws to enhance community safety and protect children.

"More than anything, I want something good to come out of this tragedy... I want to find a way that we can make better laws. Our children need to be safe in our communities... There should be no reason why there should be children afraid of people coming around — strangers, at that — and stalking them," the grieving mother said.

She continued, "If you wanted to burglarize the apartment, why not just take whatever you wanted and leave her?"

Community in Shock and Grief

The murder of Lizbeth Medina has left the community in a state of shock, grappling with the reality of such a crime occurring in their midst. It raises alarming questions about the safety and vulnerability of young residents in seemingly safe neighborhoods.

As details of the case unfold, the community is left wondering how to process and prevent such tragedies. Jacqueline Medina's call for stronger laws resonates with many who seek to understand and rectify the failures that led to this tragedy.

"I'm so thankful to the police department... They got an emergency disclosure for the geolocation for that phone and were able to track this person," Jacqueline Medina expressed, grateful for the swift action of law enforcement.

Remembering Lizbeth Medina

Lizbeth, described by her mother as mature, caring, and loving, had a significant impact on those around her. Her untimely death not only robbed a family of a beloved daughter but also deprived the community of a young woman who was changing lives.

"She wasn't a normal teenager getting in trouble for doing crazy stuff. She was very mature for her age. She was a caring and loving person who... changed a lot of people's lives," Jacqueline Medina remembered her daughter, painting a picture of a life full of promise that was tragically cut short.

The Medina family has established a GoFundMe titled "Justice for Lizbeth Medina," seeking support in their quest for justice and change in the aftermath of this tragic event.
