Native-born Americans dominate job growth under Trump

President Donald Trump’s economic policies have sparked a seismic shift, funneling every new job in July to native-born Americans, as Breitbart reports.

In a stark reversal of the previous administration’s approach, all net job growth last month favored native-born workers, while foreign-born employment took a nosedive. This pivot has reshaped the labor market, prioritizing America’s working and lower-middle class. It’s a bold move that has people talking.

Under former President Joe Biden, the economy leaned heavily on migrant labor, with 4.7 million jobs going to foreign-born workers.

Meanwhile, native-born Americans scraped by with just 645,000 new jobs. That’s a lopsided ratio of 7.3 migrant jobs for every American job gained—hardly a fair shake.

Native-born workers surge

Fast forward to July, and the tables have turned dramatically. Native-born employment skyrocketed by 2 million over the past year, a number that leaves Biden’s record in the dust. Economist E.J. Antoni calls it “the best [July] ever for employment among native-born Americans.”

Antoni’s enthusiasm is warranted, but let’s not pop the champagne just yet. While native-born workers gained 383,000 jobs in July alone, the broader economic picture still demands scrutiny. A rising tide should lift all boats, not just some.

Contrast this with foreign-born workers, who’ve seen their employment plummet by 237,000 over the same 12 months.

The Zero Hedge blog points to a “purge” of unauthorized migrant labor, noting a four-month decline of 1.5 million jobs since April 2025. That’s a brutal correction, and it stings for those affected.

Foreign-born employment takes hit

The downward trend for foreign-born workers is impossible to ignore. Since April, their job numbers have cratered, shedding opportunities that once fueled Biden’s labor market.

It’s a policy shift that screams “America first,” but at what cost to those who’ve called the U.S. home?

Native-born employment isn’t just up -- it’s soaring 1.8 million above pre-pandemic levels. That’s a feather in Trump’s cap, no question. But the stark contrast with foreign-born losses raises questions about balance in a diverse economy.

Antoni puts it bluntly: “All net job growth over the last year went to native-born Americans.” He’s not wrong, but the zero-sum vibe leaves a bitter taste. A thriving economy shouldn’t have to pit one group against another.

Policy shifts reshape workforce

Trump’s policies have tilted the playing field, opening entry-level jobs for native-born workers. Hundreds of thousands of foreign-born workers have exited the labor market monthly, creating space for locals. It’s a deliberate strategy, but it’s not without critics.

Biden’s approach, for all its flaws, spread jobs across a broader demographic. His economy churned out jobs for migrants at a clip that dwarfed native-born gains. Critics argue it diluted opportunities for Americans, and Trump’s team seems to agree.

The data speaks for itself: native-born job growth outpaced foreign-born by 2.2 million annually. That’s not just a statistic; it’s a policy triumph for those championing American workers. Still, the human cost of such a sharp pivot deserves a second look.

Balancing prosperity with fairness

The Zero Hedge blog ties the trend to an “illegal alien labor purge,” a phrase that’s bound to raise eyebrows. It’s a provocative take, but the underlying truth is that foreign-born workers are losing ground fast. Empathy for their plight shouldn’t be drowned out by victory laps.

Trump’s economy is delivering for native-born Americans, no question—2 million new jobs in a year is nothing to sneeze at. Yet, the collateral damage to foreign-born workers, down 1.5 million jobs since April, can’t be ignored. A nation’s strength lies in its ability to lift everyone.

As the labor market reshapes, the challenge is clear: keep the momentum for native-born workers without leaving others behind. Trump’s policies have set a course, but the journey’s far from over. Here’s hoping for a rising tide that truly lifts all boats.
