Over 1,900 students embrace faith at Ohio State revival, organizers say

Amidst freezing temperatures, nearly 2,000 Ohio State University students dedicated their lives to Jesus Christ at a high-spirited revival at The Schott sports arena.

According to the Christian Post, The event drew an impressive crowd of over 6,500 attendees, featuring live baptisms in U-Haul trucks and marking a significant religious movement at the university.

The revival event, fuelled by the Unite US movement, became a landmark of faith among Ohio State students. Since its inception in September 2023, the United US has rapidly gained momentum, engaging over 70,000 students at various universities with the message of Christianity and personal change.

This particular gathering at Ohio State was not only significant in size but also in action. Despite the chilly weather, students queued up to be baptized unusually—inside U-Haul trucks positioned near the sports arena.

Revival Brings Together Thousands in Shared Faith

Tonya Prewett, the founder of Unite US, took to Instagram to express her excitement about the evening. She noted, "Over 6,500 students gathered in The Schott to lift the name of Jesus, and almost 2,000 responded to the altar call—experiencing the freedom only He can bring."

Her message highlighted the overwhelming response from the student body, portraying a vibrant scene of faith and unity. Prewett's enthusiasm for the event's impact suggests a positive ongoing influence on the campus's spiritual climate.

At the heart of the revival's emotional resonance was the series of baptisms, vividly described by Pastor Matt Brown. "Last night the temps were cold but that didn’t stop students from getting baptized in the back of U-Haul trucks!" he shared on X, formerly Twitter, praising the students' fervor and commitment under less than ideal conditions.

Historical Context of Campus Revivals

Last year, a smaller revival event at Ohio State saw significant participation from the university's football team, leading to approximately 60 baptisms. Though attended by 800 to 1,000 individuals, estimates then had suggested numbers as high as 2,000, reflecting the growing appeal of these gatherings.

A faculty member recounted to The Christian Post their unique experience during the event, "It started spontaneous baptisms, and the football guys were the ones baptizing them. Person after person came. You could just see the Spirit moving in people. It was different, nothing I’ve ever experienced before."

Such testimonials demonstrate the deeply personal and communal impact of the revival, positioning it as a transformative event for many participants.

Unite US Movement Plans Future Events

The Unite US movement is not slowing down. Following their success at Ohio State and a similar event at the University of Kentucky, the movement plans to continue its momentum at Purdue University on March 5. Each event thus far has built upon the last, spreading a wave of religious engagement across American campuses.

By hosting events like the one at The Schott, Unite US has thus found a powerful formula for touching the lives of young adults. With each revival, the movement cements its role in fostering what Prewett calls a fresh 'move of God' among the youth.

"God is moving in this generation, and we know that He’s just getting started!" added Prewett, anticipating more transformative experiences in future gatherings. Her statement reflects a broad, optimistic vision for the ongoing revival of faith among students nationwide.

Impacts and Expectations from Campus Revivals

As each event unfolds, participants and organizers alike share a growing sense of both purpose and anticipation. Each revival not only strengthens individual commitments but also fortifies the collective campus culture around spiritual exploration and expression.

The ongoing series of events demonstrates a notable trend in religious engagement among college students, challenging secular assumptions about their disinterest in spiritual matters. The movement’s ability to mobilize such large numbers suggests a pronounced undercurrent of faith among today’s youth.

As the Unite US movement prepares for its next event at Purdue, the community watches with keen interest to see how this spiritual awakening continues to evolve and inspire campuses across the nation.
