Pastor denounces Candace Owens for Israel theory

Amid rising tensions following the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, prominent voices within his inner circle are now publicly clashing over unfounded conspiracy theories.Christian News reported that Pastor Rob McCoy, a close spiritual advisor to Charlie Kirk, has criticized political commentator Candace Owens for promoting baseless claims involving Israel and Kirk's death, which Utah officials have confirmed as politically driven.

Kirk, a 31-year-old conservative figure and evangelical Christian, was fatally attacked in Utah in a case prosecutors have termed politically motivated. The precise details of the assailant’s motive remain under investigation, but authorities have dismissed speculative theories circulating online.

In the days following his death, Owens began publicly suggesting, without offering supporting evidence, that Israeli interests may have played a role in Kirk’s killing. Her claims have since sparked a wave of misinformation on social media platforms.

Baseless Claims Spark Online Misinformation

The Anti-Defamation League reported that over 10,000 online posts falsely alleging that Israel was responsible for Kirk’s death emerged within two days of the incident. These posts reflect a growing amplification of Owens’ conjecture, despite a lack of verified information supporting it.

Owens further claimed that billionaire investor Bill Ackman had pressured Kirk to shift his public stance to align more favorably with Israel. The accusation raised eyebrows among Kirk’s colleagues and allies, many of whom rejected the charge outright.

Andrew Kolvet, the producer of Kirk’s broadcast, directly rebutted Owens’ claim. He said Kirk had personally told him that he had a courteous and productive dialogue with Ackman and that their working relationship was positive.

Pastor McCoy Condemns Owens’ Allegations

Speaking out in defense of his late friend, Pastor Rob McCoy, who led the religious branch of Kirk’s Turning Point USA organization, expressed disillusionment with Owens’ recent commentary.

He clarified that Kirk never spoke negatively about Owens in any public or private setting, even though they occasionally disagreed on political or theological points. “Kirk was a friend to Candace and never publicly spoke poorly of her,” McCoy noted.

In a heartfelt statement, McCoy added, “He never operated nor entertained gossip or innuendo concerning Candace. I only wish that at this tragic time of mourning, she would be the friend to Charlie that he was to her.”

Remembering Kirk’s Commitment to Faith

Charlie Kirk had become increasingly focused on his religious journey in the months leading up to his death. In an interview with journalist Megyn Kelly, he spoke of his ongoing effort to learn biblical Hebrew and his plans to author a book exploring the Shabbat.

His growing interest in spiritual matters aligned with his public support for Israel, which he emphasized in a debate at the prestigious Cambridge Union earlier in the year. There, he voiced his thoughts on the responsibility of moral clarity in geopolitical matters.

“The lack of moral clarity on this topic is chilling,” he said following the debate, referring to what he viewed as widespread misunderstandings about Israel’s global position.

Netanyahu Pays Tribute to Kirk’s Legacy

Charlie Kirk’s death reverberated internationally, drawing condolences from foreign leaders, including Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Calling Kirk a “lion-hearted friend of Israel,” Netanyahu’s message further underscored the activist’s outspoken pro-Israel stance.

This outpouring of respect from one of the world’s most watched political figures contrasted sharply with the barrage of theories Owens brought forward, which many found divisive and misleading.

Though Kirk and Owens appeared to maintain a positive relationship during his lifetime, their apparent unity has now come under scrutiny in the aftermath of Kirk’s passing and the ensuing public reactions.

Community Calls for Unity Over Division

Pastor McCoy’s comments appear aimed not just at rebutting Owens but also at calling for unity within the conservative and evangelical communities during a time of mourning. Kirk’s supporters, he suggested, should honor his memory by rejecting baseless speculation and focusing instead on the values he championed.

Kolvet echoed that sentiment. He emphasized Kirk’s commitment to collaboration, respect, and intellectual exchange, remarking that unfounded allegations only serve to distract from the broader impact of Kirk’s legacy.

As the investigation into his murder continues, Kirk’s associates hope to shift public attention away from conspiracy and back to the activist's work in shaping young conservative voices and defending his spiritual beliefs.
