President Trump praises God in Thanksgiving message, calls for unity after D.C. shooting

In a solemn Thanksgiving proclamation, President Donald Trump called on Americans to renew their gratitude to God and recognize the lineage of national faith stretching back to the Founding Fathers.

Issued just hours after a violent shooting near the White House left two National Guardsmen critically injured, Trump’s message reflected both reverence for tradition and resilience in the wake of tragedy, as Breitbart reports.

Referencing historic calls for gratitude from Presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln, Trump rooted his proclamation in faith, strength, and a deep appreciation of American endurance and blessings.

Historic Echoes of Faith in American Leadership

The president began his proclamation by invoking George Washington’s 1789 declaration, urging the nation to give thanks for divine providence. Lincoln’s Civil War-era call for national prayer also played prominently, drawing a through-line from past crises to today’s calls for unity.

“In every generation since,” Trump stated, “this spirit of reverence, trust, and gratitude has preserved our way of life.” It's a reminder, and perhaps a warning, that national strength is built on moral and spiritual foundations—not political posturing.

Trump credited these enduring values with helping guide America through both triumph and trial. His remarks placed thanks not only in the spiritual realm but connected it directly to practical achievements, including economic strength, geopolitical peace, and renewed national resolve.

A Proclamation Grounded in National Renewal

“As a result,” Trump observed, “the American economy is roaring back, we are making progress on lowering the cost of living, a new era of peace is sweeping around the world, our sovereignty is being swiftly restored, and the American spirit is coming back greater and more powerful than ever before.” That’s not just optimism; it's a vision shaped by leadership with backbone.

The president also gave tribute to those who embodied perseverance and gratitude over centuries—the pilgrims, patriots, pioneers, and soldiers—calling them the moral spine of America. Their sacrifices are not dusty artifacts of history but guiding examples for the present-day citizen.

Looking ahead, Trump used the occasion to preview the upcoming 250th anniversary of American independence, signaling a long-term commitment to national renewal rooted in shared values and a higher purpose.

Shooting Near White House Mars Holiday Mood

However, the Thanksgiving message came under the somber shadow of fresh violence in the heart of the capital. Less than a day before the proclamation, two National Guardsmen—Sarah Beckstrom and Andrew Wolfe—were shot just blocks from the White House.

The alleged shooter, identified as Rahmanullah Lakanwal, is described as an Afghan alien. He was “severely wounded” in the incident, according to the president. The guardsmen remain in critical condition, bearing the cost of a broader failure of vigilance and security in times of supposed calm.

“Rahmanullah Lakanwal viciously shot the Guardsmen, Trump said, emphasizing both the gravity and proximity of the attack. Americans rightly expect safety on their streets—and it’s hard to offer thanks when law and order are placed on shaky ground.

Faith and Fortitude at the National Forefront

Yet amid tragedy, Trump called the nation to summon “faith, resolve, and unflinching fortitude” as it faces both known and emerging threats. His approach blended spiritual conviction with national toughness—a far cry from the moral relativism of woke ideologues allergic to anything divine or traditional.

“This Thanksgiving, we summon the faith… of the giants of American history who came before us,” Trump stated. “Above all, we offer our endless gratitude to Almighty God for His love, grace, and infinite blessings.” It was more than a gesture. It was a moral pitchfork raised against cynicism and decline.

This rhetorical fusion of prayer and purpose mirrors the original spirit of Thanksgiving: a day not merely for turkey and travel, but for recalibrating a people’s priorities under God.

The American Spirit Defies Chaos

In the end, Thanksgiving feels different this year. Amid blasts of violence and breathless headlines, Trump’s message of gratitude, grounded in faith, sounded, not nostalgic, but necessary.

While critics sneer and pundits parse every word, millions still turn to the qualities President Trump named—grit, gratitude, and grace—as the bedrock of a nation that has never been perfect, but has always aspired to something higher.

God, country, courage. It’s a simple message that once built an empire of freedom—and may still save one struggling under cultural confusion. In times like these, a grateful heart may be the bravest stance of all.
