Republican lawmaker objects to book's account of Trump bed offer
Florida congresswoman Anna Paulina Luna has publicly refuted claims about an interaction with President Donald Trump aboard his plane.
According to The US Sun, Luna strongly denied allegations in a forthcoming book that suggested Trump inappropriately offered her his bed on his jet with instructions not to tell his wife, Melania.
The congresswoman explained she was experiencing pregnancy complications at the time of the incident, which she says has been mischaracterized in "Revenge: The Inside Story of Trump's Return to Power," written by Axios senior political reporter Alex Isenstadt.
Luna defends president's actions as compassionate
Luna took to social media platform X to address what she called "nasty headlines" after details from the upcoming book were reported by The Daily Beast.
The book reportedly claims that in the summer of 2023, Trump told Luna: "If you need a bed to lay down in, there's one here on the plane. If you feel sick and you need to lay there, you can lay on it. Just don't tell Melania. She doesn't like other women on my bed."
Luna provided context for the interaction, revealing she was experiencing symptoms of pre-eclampsia during the flight, though she had not yet been diagnosed with the condition. The Florida lawmaker insisted the president's offer was made respectfully and in front of her husband. She emphasized that Trump assured her medical staff were aboard the aircraft and aware of her advanced pregnancy.
Luna characterized Trump's actions as "the most compassionate thing that could've been done at the time" and expressed disgust that the author had portrayed the interaction differently.
White House dismisses book as fictional
Neither President Trump nor First Lady Melania Trump have publicly addressed the allegations contained in Isenstadt's book. White House Communications Director Steven Cheung responded to the claims, telling The Independent that the book is a "work of fiction."
Luna was particularly critical of the book's framing, stating it attacked "POTUS, his marriage, our first lady, and frankly implying something distasteful about me." She also claimed the author never contacted her for comment about the incident, which she suggested indicated the book would be a "hit piece."
The congresswoman issued a warning to White House officials, stating that anyone sharing information with the author "needs to be cut off immediately."
Congresswoman balances political career with motherhood
Luna, who represents Florida's 13th congressional district, gave birth to her son in August 2023, shortly after the alleged airplane incident.
She announced the birth on Instagram with a black and white image of her baby's hand, thanking the medical team at Morton Plant hospital in Clearwater, Florida. The congresswoman has shared glimpses of her life as a "working mom" on social media, including a photo of herself holding her then-six-week-old son in her Washington, DC, office in October 2023.
Luna has continued her congressional duties while raising her child, even joking that her son's "first vote" on the House floor was for Jim Jordan during his bid to become Speaker. Before entering politics, Luna served in the Air Force for six years after joining at age 19. She was elected to Congress in 2022 after an unsuccessful run in 2020.
Military veteran now leading government transparency efforts
Luna has recently taken on a prominent role in government transparency initiatives, heading a task force focused on declassifying federal secrets.
The congresswoman is spearheading efforts to shed light on various topics, including COVID-19, UFOs, and alleged cover-ups related to Jeffrey Epstein's sex trafficking operation.
She has emphasized the importance of government transparency, stating: "For too long, the American spirit has been dimmed by a veil of secrecy, by a government that has grown too comfortable in the shadows, denying us the transparency we deserve."
At 35 years old, Luna is relatively young to lead such a high-profile initiative. The full name of her committee is the "Task Force on the Declassification of Federal Secrets." Luna has promised to focus on multiple controversial topics that have captured public interest, including investigations into the assassination of President John F. Kennedy.
Trump ally stands firm against book's portrayal
Anna Paulina Luna, a Republican congresswoman from Florida, has publicly challenged claims in Alex Isenstadt's upcoming book about an interaction with President Donald Trump aboard his plane. The book alleges Trump offered Luna his bed with instructions not to tell First Lady Melania, but Luna maintains this characterization distorts what was actually a compassionate gesture toward her while she was experiencing pregnancy complications. The congresswoman, who later gave birth and was diagnosed with pre-eclampsia, has warned that anyone in the president's circle sharing information with the author should be removed from Trump's orbit.
