Returned Bible after theft strengthens man’s faith in divine provision
A Tennessee man who lost his treasured Bible and family mementos in a theft was shocked when the items were unexpectedly recovered through a stranger’s Facebook post.
According to CBN, Matt Williams’ stolen Bible case, containing deeply personal keepsakes, was later found in a separate stolen vehicle and returned to him thanks to a social media post by a Good Samaritan.
Williams, who lives in Tennessee, discovered that his car had been broken into when he went outside and found something missing from the vehicle. Upon further inspection, he realized his Bible case, which included not only the sacred text but also cherished family photographs and irreplaceable memories, had vanished.
Discovery Leads To Shock And Prayer
Speaking to local news outlet WTVF-TV, Williams recounted his disbelief. “I went around to look, and it wasn’t there,” he said of the moment he realized the case was gone. “And I was like, ‘Oh no — surely they didn’t take the Bible of all things.’”
Stunned and heartbroken, Williams turned to his faith. Within moments of realizing the loss, he offered a prayer, admitting his emotional attachment to the contents but ultimately deferring the outcome to divine will. “Lord, it breaks my heart,” he recalled praying. “I got a lot of stuff in there that means a lot to me, and I’d like to get it back. But not my will but yours, like you always say.”
Though disappointed, Williams said he found a sense of surrender and peace through his prayer. He believed that if the Bible and his keepsakes were meant to be returned, they would find their way back through unseen hands.
Bible Found Abandoned In Another Vehicle
That hope became reality when another stolen car entered the picture. The vehicle, believed to have been taken by the same person responsible for the earlier burglary, was later found.
Inside the abandoned car, situated on the front passenger seat, sat two copies of the Bible — one of which was unmistakably Williams’. The rightful owner of the second stolen vehicle had not yet located the Bible's owner, but her mother stepped in to help.
The woman’s mother came across the Bible case and, determined to return it, posted about the discovery on social media, hoping someone would recognize its sentimental value and claim it.
Social Media Helps Restore Treasured Items
Williams came across the post and contacted the woman who had published the photo. After confirming the items were his, arrangements were made, and the Bible case, along with the photographs and personal belongings inside, made its way back to him.
The experience left a lasting impression on the Tennessee resident, who viewed the sequence of events not as a coincidence but as a deeply meaningful confirmation of his faith. The recovery became for him a reminder of divine attentiveness to personal trials, even minor ones.
“God says not even a sparrow falls from the sky that he doesn’t know about and doesn’t notice,” Williams said, quoting scripture. “So apparently, not a Bible gets stolen from a car in a driveway that he doesn’t notice and respond to as well.”
Faith Restored Through Unexpected Outcome
For Williams, the events reinforced his long-standing belief in a higher power attentive to the smallest details of life. It was a spiritual reassurance that, even amid theft and wrongdoing, good can emerge.
The Bible case held photographs and old notes, which Williams had collected over time and stored with care. He had not expected to see any of it again and was grateful that it had been handled with enough regard for its contents to remain intact.
The story resonated with others on social media, where people responded to the post with encouragement and affirmations of hope, sharing in Williams’s gratitude and astonishment at how the situation unfolded.
A Community Uplifted By the Return Of the Bible
Though the perpetrator of the theft remains unidentified, the return of Williams’ personal belongings served as a point of inspiration for those who heard about his ordeal. It also highlighted the power of prayer and the positive potential of online communities when used for compassion.
Williams remains thankful to the woman who posted the message, as well as to those in the community who helped share and spread word of the lost Bible. He describes their actions as essential in helping recover what he had assumed was gone forever.
Now reunited with his Bible and mementos, Williams has found a renewed sense of appreciation—not only for the return of his belongings, but for the faith that guided him through the unexpected journey.
