Texas pastor Ronnie Goines cleared of sexual assault charges

A grand jury acquitted Texas Pastor Ronnie Goines this week of sexual assault allegations. The Tarrant County grand jury determined there was insufficient evidence to support the charges.

According to the Christian Post, the rapid acquittal of Pastor Ronnie Goines follows a civil lawsuit claiming he committed sexual assault.

Ronnie Goines founded Koinonia Christian Church in Arlington and has served as a prominent figure in the community. Legal issues entangled him after a church member accused him. This woman, a dentist and former member of the church, filed the lawsuit against him on February 28.

Beginning of Church Membership and Allegations

The dentist joined the Koinonia Church recently on October 2, 2022. Within months of her joining, she reported being sexually assaulted by Goines on March 3 and March 4, 2023. These serious allegations were the basis of her lawsuit, wherein she claimed to have been groomed by Goines before the assaults.

The dentist severed ties with the church and reported the assaults to the local police in early June 2024. This police report led to Goines facing serious charges, including sexual and indecent assault.

Despite these allegations, Goines maintained that the interactions he had were consensual. He was arrested but managed to post bail of $23,000 in July, temporarily stepping away from his pastoral duties during the legal proceedings.

Legal and Community Reactions Unfold

By October, Goines resumed his role at Koinonia Christian Church, having taken a three-month hiatus to focus on his legal battles. His return was met with mixed emotions within the community, given the severity of the accusations.

The dentist, in her legal action against Goines, has sought damages exceeding $1 million. According to her claims, these damages relate to negligence, fraud, and intentional infliction of emotional distress by Goines and his church.

Despite the recent grand jury decision to dismiss the felony charge of sexual assault, Goines is not completely clear of all allegations. He still faces a misdemeanor charge of indecent assault, which remains under judicial consideration.

Statements From Legal Representatives

Michael Heiskell, Goines' lawyer, expressed satisfaction with the grand jury's decision. “As counsel for Pastor Goines, I am pleased with the outcome of the grand jury's investigation resulting in the no-bill of indictment that effectively acquits him of this heinous allegation. From the beginning, we asserted his innocence in court and have remained steadfast in that position,” Heiskell stated.

On the other side, Boz Tchividjian, representing the dentist, acknowledged the efforts of the law enforcement and legal teams. “We appreciate the dedication and effort of local law enforcement and the District Attorney's Office in pursuing justice in the area. We remain determined and committed to holding Mr. Goines accountable for his actions,” Tchividjian commented.

Ronnie Goines also has ties outside his religious duties as he runs the All Things Life Insurance Agency. His role as a pastor coupled with his activities in the community and business spheres add layers to the public interest in his legal proceedings.

Next Steps in Legal Proceedings

The community remains divided as they await further developments in the misdemeanor case. It highlights the complex relationship between community leaders and the members they serve, especially when allegations of a serious nature emerge.

This case is far from concluded in the court of public opinion, despite the legal ruling by the grand jury. As the legal proceedings continue regarding the misdemeanor charge, both the church and its wider community will be watching closely.

The impact of this case extends beyond the courtroom, affecting perceptions and trust within the community centered around Koinonia Christian Church. How it ultimately resolves could have lasting implications not only for Goines but for the congregation he leads.
