Trump deploys military to safeguard Portland ICE facilities from Antifa attacks

In a bold move that’s got everyone talking, President Donald Trump has ordered troops to Portland to shield Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facilities from what he calls a dire threat by Antifa, recently branded as a terrorist group, as the Daily Caller reports.

Following weeks of escalating violence, Trump’s administration is stepping in to protect federal property and personnel in Portland after a string of aggressive protests targeting ICE centers, as announced on Saturday.

The drama kicked off earlier this month on September 17, 2025, when Trump took to Truth Social to label Antifa a "DANGEROUS, RADICAL LEFT DISASTER," setting the stage for a crackdown on what he sees as domestic terrorism.

Antifa designated as terrorist threat

This designation wasn’t just rhetoric; it came after years of violent acts linked to left-wing groups.

Portland emerged as a hotspot for chaos between June and September, according to a White House official.

Reports detail over half a dozen incidents in Portland alone, including arson, assaults on law enforcement, and even a chilling threat involving a guillotine at an ICE facility. If that’s not a wake-up call, what is?

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS), under Secretary Kristi Noem, has been on the front lines.

Agents have arrested dozens of individuals tied to Antifa for attacks on officers, riots, and even murders across the nation in recent months.

Portland under siege

Portland, a city long known for its deep-blue politics with Democrat control since 1993, has seen its ICE processing center repeatedly besieged by rioters, as noted in a Friday DHS press release.

Specific incidents in late June highlight the intensity, with anti-ICE violence in Portland following similar riots in Los Angeles, showing a disturbing pattern of coordinated aggression against immigration enforcement.

DHS also pointed fingers at the Portland-based Rose City Antifa, one of the oldest such groups, which claimed responsibility back in 2019 for a vicious attack on journalist Andy Ngo, leaving him seriously injured.

Talk about a long memory for mayhem.

ICE officers targeted

It gets uglier: Rose City Antifa has allegedly doxed ICE officers by exposing their personal details online and on flyers, while others linked to Antifa have sent death threats to agents and DHS staff.

Amid this escalating danger, Trump’s response on Saturday via Truth Social was direct, ordering troops to protect "War-ravaged Portland" and authorizing "Full Force, if necessary." That’s not mincing words when federal lives are on the line.

Yet, some local leaders in Oregon, including Gov. Tina Kotek and Multnomah County Senior Judge Ellen Rosenblum, have been criticized by White House officials for not stepping up against this wave of left-wing violence. Is silence complicity when chaos reigns?

Federal response commences

Noem’s request for military support underscores the severity of the situation, as federal facilities can’t be left as sitting ducks for radical agitators in a city that’s become a lightning rod for unrest.

While Portland’s city council, entirely under Democrats' control, might see this as federal overreach, the reality on the ground -- assaults, arson, and threats -- paints a picture of a community in desperate need of order over ideology.

Trump’s decision to deploy troops isn’t just a show of strength; it’s a signal that the federal government won’t back down from protecting its own, even if it means wading into the progressive heartland to do so. Let’s hope this restores calm before more lives are lost.
