Trump forms federal task force to investigate anti-Christian bias

Former President Donald Trump announced the creation of a new task force aimed at eliminating discrimination against Christians within the federal government.

According to Fox News, a new report released by the initiative accuses the Biden administration of systemic religious discrimination across multiple federal agencies and includes policy promises to safeguard Christian liberties under a future Trump administration.

The Task Force to Eradicate Anti-Christian Bias, chaired by Attorney General Pam Bondi, held its first official meeting on April 22, 2025, at the Department of Justice headquarters. The task force was formed to identify and halt misconduct or discriminatory policies affecting faith groups, specifically Christians, within federal institutions.

Initial Report Highlights Federal Agency Conduct

An initial assessment of the task force's work was completed and shared exclusively with Fox News Digital on Friday. The report cites numerous examples of alleged bias during the Biden presidency and outlines areas the task force says showed mistreatment of Christian individuals and institutions.

Among its findings, the report claims the Department of Defense, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and Department of Labor improperly handled requests for religious exemptions to COVID-19 vaccine mandates. The task force stated these denials disproportionately affected Christians seeking accommodation based on their faith.

The Department of Education was specifically named for imposing unusually high fines on two Christian universities. Liberty University was fined $14 million, while Grand Canyon University faced a $37.7 million penalty, actions the report says reflect a harsher regulatory approach toward faith-based colleges.

Religious Expression Rights and Federal Enforcement

The Department of Homeland Security was cited for excluding references to Christian religious accommodations in documents outlining detainee rights, even as it highlighted provisions for other religious groups, including Islam and Judaism. The task force raised concerns about what it described as an uneven application of religious protections.

According to the report, the Department of Justice showed selective enforcement of laws protecting faith-based demonstrators, particularly concerning individuals demonstrating outside of abortion clinics. It noted that more than two dozen people were prosecuted under the Freedom of Access to Clinic Entrances Act for actions connected to Christian demonstrations.

However, the task force stated the DOJ did not pursue similar legal action against individuals involved in attacks on churches and anti-abortion facilities. The report argued that this imbalance demonstrated a bias in the administration of justice against Christians.

Internal Government Practices Also Scrutinized

Additional claims in the document included concerns about hiring practices and internal workplace equity. The State Department was accused of approving fewer leave requests for Christian holidays and showing preference toward non-Christian employees in its hiring processes.

The report also criticized the Treasury Department for allegedly shutting down accounts held by pro-Christian organizations—an act referred to in the report as “debanking.” This financial barrier, it is argued, limited the ability of Christian groups to operate effectively.

Furthermore, the Department of Labor replaced the Office of Faith-Based Initiatives with one dedicated to diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts. According to the task force, this change marked a shift away from supporting faith organizations in the federal employment sector.

Social Media Policy and Holidays Called into Question

The task force reported that HUD removed social media posts celebrating Christian events such as Easter and Christmas, even as it maintained similar posts promoting Ramadan, Diwali, and LGBTQ Pride Month. Bondi's office claimed this demonstrated unequal recognition of religious celebrations.

Internal communication standards promoting LGBTQ policies in diplomatic missions were also cited as problematic. The task force argued that these directives could clash with workers' religious convictions and posed a challenge to religious freedom abroad as well.

A memo issued by the FBI during the Biden administration was especially highlighted. The task force said it indicated a troubling posture by identifying "radical-traditionalist" Catholic groups as potential domestic terrorism threats, which the report claims unfairly stigmatized religious communities.

White House Faith-Based Office Reestablished

In February 2025, Trump created the White House Faith Office through an executive order. This move was intended to reestablish faith-centered guidance within the government and promote collaboration with religious and community groups across the country.

The Faith Office operates under the Domestic Policy Council and will serve as both a policy advisory body and a liaison for houses of worship and faith-based charities. Trump stated that the office will strengthen family support structures and ensure policies align with what he described as American values.

"The days of anti-Christian bias in the federal government are over. Faith is not a liability in America—it is a liberty," the task force’s report concluded. This direct message echoed the broader purpose of Trump's latest religious liberty platform.

Continued Investigations and Next Steps

The task force is conducting an ongoing investigation into the conduct of federal departments and agencies. A final report is expected to be released in February 2026 and may include further action steps, recommendations, or suggested reforms.

White House spokeswoman Taylor Rogers emphasized Trump’s support for religious freedoms in contrast to the previous administration. “Unlike Joe Biden, President Trump is protecting Christians, not punishing them,” she said, summarizing the administration’s position on the issue.

The task force promises that government overreach, infringing on Christian liberty, “will never again be permitted.” It pledges that all religions will be treated equally through policy and implementation, as part of what it says is its commitment to uphold the rule of law.
