UFC star Conor McGregor enters Irish presidential race

In a surprising turn of events, former UFC champion Conor McGregor has declared his candidacy for the presidency of Ireland. McGregor, known for his combative style in the octagon, now seeks to bring his fighting spirit to the political arena.

"Ireland must fully implement the EU Migration Pact by June 12, 2026," McGregor stated, outlining the need for several legislative actions by both Houses of the Oireachtas before presidential assent. He expressed a firm intention to lead the public discussion and decision-making process regarding the migration pact.

"For clarity also, as President, I would put forth this bill to referendum. Although I oppose greatly this pact, it is neither mine nor government's choice to make. It is the people of Ireland's choice! Always! That is a true democracy!" McGregor declared, advocating for a participative democratic process.

The upcoming presidential election, scheduled for Nov. 11, will see McGregor contest for leadership as the current president, Michael D. Higgins, approaches the end of his term. McGregor's entry into the race is expected to stir significant public interest and debate.

"Who else will stand up to the Government and oppose this bill? Any other presidential candidate they attempt to put forward will be of no resistance to them. I will!" McGregor stated emphatically, positioning himself as a formidable and distinct choice for voters.
