Federal authorities have disclosed that Iranian cyber operatives targeted Biden campaign affiliates with emails containing stolen documents from the Trump campaign, in an action believed to be part of an ongoing attempt by Iran to influence U.S. political dynamics.

In a recent report, federal agencies have confirmed a sophisticated cyber-attack by Iranian actors aimed at meddling in the U.S. electoral process using stolen Trump campaign materials, but the Harris camp denies receipt of or engagement with any such materials, as Fox News reports.

In late June and early July, operatives sent unsolicited emails to individuals linked to President Biden’s then-campaign, according to a joint statement from the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI), the FBI, and the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA).

These emails included excerpts from non-public material from former President Trump’s campaign, highlighting Iran’s continuing efforts to impact the election outcomes.

The Harris-Walz campaign has emphatically denied receiving any material sent directly from these efforts. Spokesperson Morgan Finkelstein stressed the campaign’s commitment to integrity and lawful conduct. “We have cooperated with the appropriate law enforcement authorities since being informed of these foreign influence operations,” Finkelstein noted.

Background Revelations on Cyber Interference

Emails sent by these cyber actors were primarily delivered to personal email accounts and appeared as spam or phishing attempts.

These interaction attempts have been widely condemned across political lines, with the Harris campaign denouncing any foreign interference in U.S. elections as “unwelcome” and “unacceptable.”

Finkelstein’s statement highlighted that only a few associated individuals were targeted, and the material was not utilized by the campaign.

The joint federal agency report also confirmed that they had no information to suggest that the targeted individuals responded to these unsolicited emails.

On the social media platform TRUTH Social, Trump even questioned when Harris and her campaign would be investigated by a grand jury concerning these accusations.
