Nathan Wade Discloses Early Efforts To Investigate Trump By DA Willis

Behind closed doors, a key figure reveals surprising details about a high-profile investigation.

According to a Washington Examiner, Nathan Wade testified before Congress that Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis began preparing to prosecute former President Donald Trump before she assumed office.

Wade's deposition, conducted by the House Judiciary Committee last week, shed light on the early efforts to investigate Trump for alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election results.

During the closed-door session, Wade disclosed that Willis had initiated outreach to form a search committee focused on the Trump investigation prior to her official start date.

This move indicates Willis's proactive approach in targeting the former president while he was still in office. Wade explained that the contact from Willis began sometime after the 2020 election but before January 1, 2021.

Early Efforts to Prosecute Trump

Wade detailed that the search committee aimed to find a lead prosecutor who did not have any personal grievances against Trump. This criterion was intended to ensure an unbiased approach to the investigation. However, Wade later felt pressured by the committee to take on the role of lead prosecutor himself.

So, January 1st, I was a part of the search committee for that newly elected district attorney, and we were tasked with trying to identify someone who would serve as lead counsel on the election interference investigation. Eventually, I guess the committee turned their guns on me and started trying to convince me to accept the role.

Despite his initial reluctance, Wade was persuaded to lead the case against Trump. However, Wade's tenure on the Trump case was cut short this year following revelations of an undisclosed romantic relationship with Willis. The defendants in the case argued that this relationship constituted a conflict of interest, leading to Wade's resignation.

A judge partially agreed with this assessment, prompting Trump to elevate his argument to the Georgia Court of Appeals in an attempt to have Willis removed from the case. As of now, Trump's appeal remains pending.

Wade and Willis have publicly stated that their romantic relationship began in early 2022 after the grand jury investigation into Trump was already underway. Nonetheless, evidence presented during the inquiry suggested that their personal relationship may have been more intimate prior to that time, raising further questions about potential conflicts of interest.

Questions About Potential Bias

The House Judiciary Committee also pressed Wade about his meetings with counsel in President Joe Biden’s White House and with individuals associated with the disbanded Jan. 6 Committee. These meetings, revealed through court filings earlier this year, have not been fully explained by Wade, who has been unable to recall specific details.

I do not recall, Wade stated when questioned about a meeting with White House counsel in 2022. You know, during the course of this investigation, we interviewed probably hundreds of people, tons of conversations.

This lack of clarity has fueled speculation that Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris's allies may have been politically motivated in supporting Wade's efforts to bring charges against Trump. However, there are no known illegalities involved in local prosecutors seeking evidence from Congress or consulting with White House lawyers.

Wade’s testimony comes as part of a broader investigation led by House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan (R-OH) into Willis’s prosecution of Trump. Jordan, a staunch Trump supporter, has criticized Willis for what he perceives as improper political motivations behind her actions.

Allegations of Misuse of Funds

Jordan has raised concerns about Willis’s use of federal grant money, pointing out that her office financially supported Wade for over two years during the period of their personal relationship. These allegations suggest potential misuse of public funds to benefit a personal relationship, although Willis has consistently denied any wrongdoing.

Willis’s office has not responded to requests for comment regarding Wade’s recent deposition and the claims made therein. Her office maintains that her pursuit of the Trump investigation is purely based on legal grounds and that there are no political motivations driving her actions.

The investigation into Willis's handling of the Trump case has intensified, with Jordan and his committee seeking to uncover any possible misconduct or bias in her prosecution strategy. The ongoing legal battles and political maneuvers highlight the deep divisions and contentious nature of the case.

Conclusion

Nathan Wade testified that Fani Willis began preparations to prosecute Trump before taking office. Willis reached out to Wade and others after the 2020 election but before January 1, 2021. Wade was later pressured to lead the Trump case but resigned due to a disclosed romantic relationship with Willis. This relationship led Trump to appeal for Willis's removal from the case, a move that is still pending.
