Minnesota Missionary Slain In Angola Amidst Community Service

Beau Shroyer, a former Minnesota pastor-turned-missionary, was tragically killed in Angola, marking a profound loss for both his family and community.

Details remain scarce surrounding the incident that led to the death of the father of five on Friday, Fox News reported.

Shroyer, 44, had relocated to Angola in 2021 with his wife, Jackie, and their five children. They moved there as global COVID-19 lockdowns began to ease, seeking to serve as missionaries under the banner of SIM USA.

Before embarking on his missionary journey, Shroyer had been deeply ingrained in community service and vocational callings, including a stint with the Detroit Lakes Police Department in 2013, followed by time as a real estate agent.

Beau Shroyer and his family adjusted to life in a remote bush village devoid of modern conveniences like electricity and running water, focusing their efforts on helping an underserved population.

Shroyer’s Commitment to Vocational Training in Angola

The family dedicated their time to the marginalized Nyneka community, who suffered from limited access to educational resources, with Beau specifically involved in vocational training programs for the youth.

His efforts were documented on social media, showing him actively participating in workshops and community meetings, highlighting his role in elevating the local standard of living through education.

Beau's former church, Lakes Area Vineyard Church in Minnesota, where he served as a pastor, has continued to support the Shroyer family. Lead Pastor Troy Easton reported that details of Beau’s tragic death are still forthcoming.

Community and Church React to Shroyer’s Tragic End

"At this point, there are many details about what’s happened that are still unknown, however, we have been in contact with his wife Jackie, and are doing what we can to come alongside them in this shocking and awful time," stated Pastor Easton.

Easton expressed a complex mixture of heartbreak and spiritual reflection, focusing on Beau's religious convictions, "We are heartbroken for Jackie, their 5 children, and their families, but we also rejoice in the truth that Beau, now absent from the body, is present with the Lord."

The church leader also touched upon the difficulty in understanding such loss. “Moments like these create so many unanswerable questions for us and it adds to the pain to know that we may never understand why our Father has allowed something like this to happen,” Easton revealed.

Statements from SIM USA Amid Mourning

Randy Fairman, President of SIM USA, commented on the impactful nature of the Shroyer family's mission: "They have brought a faithful, energetic, growing, loving aroma of Christ into our family."

Fairman also conveyed the challenge facing the community, “From our perspective and the perspective of Jackie and the kids, we now must trust Jesus in a season that we never imagined. We must trust him without requiring him to give us an understanding of why he allowed this. It is difficult and stretches our faith."

In an attempt to provide support, Fairman is currently traveling to Angola.

Looking Forward: Community Recovery and Remembrance

The Lakes Area Vineyard Church, along with the extended community, clings to their faith to navigate through their grief, remembering Beau Shroyer's dedication to his faith and service to others.

As the investigation into his death continues, his community in Minnesota and his new home in Angola both linger in a state of mourning.

Beau Shroyer will be remembered as a man of faith who lived his life serving the most vulnerable and his death has echoed a message of love and sacrifice across continents.
