Chris Pratt opens up about finding faith through family crisis

Chris Pratt opens up about finding faith through family crisis

Chris Pratt is known for his blockbuster films, but this week, he made headlines for something far more personal—his faith.

In a sit-down with Steve Doocy on "Fox & Friends," the Hollywood star revisited the spiritual journey that began during a terrifying moment in his life and continues to shape everything from his family life to his work in show business, as Fox News reports.

The appearance on Tuesday revealed how a traumatic medical scare with his eldest son became a pivotal moment that deepened his relationship with God, redirecting his priorities and planting his feet more firmly in his Christian beliefs.

A Difficult Beginning Leads to Spiritual Awakening

Pratt opened up about how his oldest son, Jack, now 13, was born prematurely in a moment he described as “very touch-and-go.” For the young father, the uncertain outcome pulled him to his knees in prayer and reflection.

“When you're in those kinds of moments in your life, there's a lot of prayer and contemplation,” he said during the segment. “That was one of the times in my life where... the tectonic plates in my spiritual life really shifted beneath me.”

That spiritual earthquake, as he described it, led to a deeper, lasting faith—and it didn’t disappear once the crisis passed. Unlike many in Hollywood who conveniently find faith when it suits their image, Pratt’s conviction wasn’t a photo op—it stuck.

Hollywood Star, Faithful Father

Pratt has long stood out in entertainment circles as someone unafraid to profess his Christian faith, a stand that’s earned him respect from some and criticism from others in the industry’s “open-minded” elite.

He calmly described his daily routine, highlighting prayer, family, and a hot cup of coffee. “I do a little prayer time, drink my coffee, try to have a little moment to myself, check in with my wife,” he explained, before joking that the “circus” of young children rolls in soon after.

He and his wife, Katherine Schwarzenegger—daughter of Arnold Schwarzenegger and Maria Shriver—met in church, a setting he still speaks about with some light humor and gratitude. “I met my wife in church... and I thought, wow, she’s really cute,” he recalled.

A Balance Between Stardom And Stillness

Despite being a leading man in franchises like "Jurassic World" and "Guardians of the Galaxy," Pratt rarely reminds his kids that he’s a household name. In fact, they’re mostly unaware he’s famous.

He shared a moment involving excited volleyball players and his children, who couldn’t understand why strangers wanted photos with their dad. “They were looking at me like, ‘Why do those people want to take a picture with you?’” he said, adding that he typically avoids public photos in front of his kids to preserve a sense of normalcy.

Fame seems secondary to family, and in a culture obsessed with celebrity worship, Pratt choosing to shield his children from it is refreshingly countercultural—and today, that counts as rebellion.

From Bubba Gump Shrimp To Billion-Dollar Franchises

Pratt hadn’t always lived large. He reminded audiences that he once lived out of a van and paid the bills waiting tables at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. Long hours on set today are a blessing framed against that backdrop.

“It’s a beautiful thing,” he said. “To think that I can come home from work incredibly tired, and I just have to imagine where I was 20 years ago and realize that I’m tired from work that I had dreamed of being able to do.”

Many Americans can relate more to the guy bussing tables than the one walking red carpets, which may be why Pratt resonates so sincerely—he embodies the kind of humility that often gets filtered out of public figures by Hollywood’s PR machines.

Faith Gets a Digital Boost

Pratt has also teamed up with the Hallow app for a December prayer challenge, bringing his spiritual life into the digital space. The focus is Psalm 46: “Be still and know that I am God.”

“We’re focusing on Psalm 46,” he said. “So, bringing stillness to the chaotic holiday season.”

In a world full of noise—from social media to non-stop outrage—stillness might be the most radical act left, especially in December when everything screams “buy more, do more, be more.”

Finding Joy In The Everyday

Pratt’s appearance came not long after his stint at New York Comic Con, where fans may cheer his on-screen adventures—but it’s becoming clear that his off-screen convictions leave a deeper impression.

Even during busy times, he says his faith helps steady him, whether at home wrangling toddlers or on set filming his next blockbuster. The man many still remember from a comedy show now speaks like someone anchored in more than just success.

He continues to maintain that family and faith are priorities over fame—something that may not earn him standing ovations in progressive circles, but will surely win quiet respect in homes across America where those values still matter.
