Every child under 18 now holds a Trump Account after Oval Office push — parents must claim to unlock cash

President Trump marked automatic enrollment of all kids under 18 into Trump Accounts as the Dells pledged $250 to 25 million children, parents must still claim the money to benefit.

President Trump stood in the Oval Office on Wednesday with tech billionaire Michael Dell and Susan Dell beside him and several children looking on. He marked a clear milestone: every child under 18 with a Social Security number is now automatically enrolled in a Trump Account.

The move lands as the White House highlights work on family finances and the cost of living ahead of November’s midterm election. Trump used the moment to push companies to pour more money into the accounts and to urge parents to get involved right away.

The New York Post reported the Dells pledged $250 for each of 25 million children’s accounts. Michael Dell said all 25 million would be funded by the end of the week.

Trump called the couple “an exceptional couple, truly an extraordinary couple.” He pointed to other major firms that have already followed with their own contributions.

“Some of the biggest companies in America are giving hundreds of millions of dollars,”

Trump said, naming Uber, Intel, Nvidia, and Steak n’ Shake among those that have stepped up. Charity groups, relatives, and workplace 401(k) plans can also put money into the accounts.

Automatic enrollment does not hand parents the controls

Automatic enrollment is only the first step. It does not mean a child automatically receives the government’s $1,000 seed contribution or that parents control the account.

A parent or guardian must claim the account through the Trump Account mobile app. Only then can they manage it, open the door for outside contributions, and, for eligible children, secure the one-time federal deposit. Any child born during Trump’s second term can receive that $1,000 contribution.

Until a parent claims the account, Bank of New York Mellon acts as trustee. Newborns get enrolled when a Social Security number is requested for them.

The administration has already moved on other lasting policy steps, including when Trump creates Super Intelligence Force efforts to lock in long-term American advantages. The Trump Accounts follow the same pattern of building permanent tools for the next generation.

White House figures show this week marks 70 million accounts established for all children under 18 with Social Security numbers since the program launched in July. Since July 4, more than $4.5 billion has been deposited into the accounts.

Even so, earlier numbers showed that almost 8 million accounts had been opened, only about 10 percent of all eligible American children. That gap is exactly why Trump pressed parents to act.

“Very simply, this money is your child’s future,”

Trump said. He added that every member of the next generation will now have an investment account and will benefit from the booming economy. “Now they’ll be potentially very rich.”

Money stays locked until adulthood

Funds remain locked until Jan. 1 of the year the child turns 18. After that date the young adult can withdraw the money penalty-free for specific purposes such as buying a home or paying for college. The withdrawals count as taxable income.

Accounts can grow to several thousand dollars through compound interest and extra deposits. The design is straightforward: start early, keep the money invested, and let it build until the child reaches adulthood.

Trump has used public events before to drive home concrete economic relief, much as he did when he signed an order allowing tax-free red-dye diesel on highways. The Trump Account push carries the same focus on putting money and opportunity directly in families’ hands.

Susan Dell spoke directly to the children and to parents watching from home.

“So, to every child across the country, these accounts are for you. We believe in you, and we want you to dream big because we know you can make your dreams come true.”

She also pointed to the simple power of “knowing that someone believes in you, in your future.”

Trump lightened the room when he turned to the children present and told them, “You’re so good looking. Stay there. The press can admire you. That’s the way they used to look.” He handed out challenge coins before the event wrapped.

Midterms put family pocketbook front and center

The timing is no accident. With November’s midterm election approaching, the administration is putting its record on household finances and cost-of-living relief in plain view. Giving every child an investment stake in the economy is a concrete deliverable parents can see and claim.

Political ground is already shifting on other fronts as Democrats retreat from mail-in voting strategies ahead of the same midterms. Voters are watching results, not rhetoric, and seed money sitting in a child’s name is a result they can measure.

Parents who want the full benefit, the federal $1,000 for eligible newborns, the Dell $250 for the 25 million children covered by that pledge, and any further company or family contributions, must open the app and claim the account. Leaving it unclaimed leaves the trustee in charge and keeps the seed money and extra gifts out of reach.

Trump’s message stayed simple and direct: the accounts exist, the money is real, and the next step belongs to parents. The Oval Office event put the numbers, the corporate pledges, and the children themselves in the same room so no one could miss the point.

Other Trump-aligned fights continue in Congress, including moments when Democrats block bills aimed at shielding ordinary households from higher costs. The Trump Accounts cut the other direction, building assets for kids instead of adding burdens.

Seventy million accounts are already on the books. Billions have already landed. The Dells’ $250 gifts are moving this week. The only remaining gate is a parent or guardian willing to claim what has already been set aside.

Parents who want their kids to share in the upside should open the app and claim the account. The money is waiting; the future is not going to claim itself.
