Man recounts father’s fall into Satanism and remarkable faith conversion

What began as spiritual curiosity led to darkness, but ended in miraculous deliverance and redemption.

Rick Hansen has detailed his father's descent into Satan worship and subsequent transformation into a Christian exorcist in a powerful memoir and podcast interview that explores the reality of spiritual warfare many choose to ignore, as CBN reports.

According to Hansen, his childhood home was the battleground of visible and intense spiritual conflict. From a young age, he witnessed exorcisms, warfare in prayer, and his mother’s steadfast intercession while his father descended deep into occult practices. It started not with a leap but with a nudge—one seemingly harmless decision that opened wide the wrong doors.

Dark Interests Opened the Spiritual Floodgates

Hansen’s father had grown up in a Christian home, but over time developed what Hansen calls a "dark curiosity." One fateful day, he felt compelled to switch on the television, where a documentary on Anton LaVey's Church of Satan was airing. That moment unlocked a floodgate neither he nor his family could anticipate.

"In that instant, the amount of hatred that flowed into his body was overwhelming… and he said at God and specifically at Jesus," Rick recalled in an interview on the "Heaven Meets Earth" podcast. That rage wasn’t psychological—it marked the entry point for demons into his father’s life. "That was the moment that the demons entered him," Hansen said, not pulling any punches.

This began roughly two years of private devotion to Satan, during which his demeanor, anger, and emotional state altered drastically. Hansen’s mother, a strong woman of faith, noticed the darkness closing in on her husband. His once-loving nature gave way to volatility, as demonic influence took hold.

Descent Deeper into the Occult and Isolation

As a teacher, Hansen’s father began attracting students who were involved in generational witchcraft. The common spirit among them was clear. Hansen observed, “Those demons through the kids knew my dad’s spirit and [they knew] the demons that were in him were there…” This wasn’t make-believe—it was a disturbing spiritual reality.

Satan wasn’t idle either; he kept sweetening the deal, offering power and control—all from the bottomless pit. "Satan would lure him with these talons, these tricks of power... the more my dad experienced that dark side, the more he wanted to indulge," Hansen explained. And indulge he did, though he never fully surrendered his family to Satan’s influence, thanks to one clear boundary.

That boundary was his wife—the quiet warrior in the background. "She was in the way," Hansen said, referencing his mother's spiritual resistance. Her prayers stood like a wall, keeping her husband from diving completely into the abyss. It’s not always the lawmakers or the loud activists who shift mountains—sometimes it’s the praying mom in the living room.

God Interceded Through Divine Confrontation

Then came the Sunday that changed everything. Overwhelmed with rage, Hansen’s father violently threw a Bible against the wall and began cursing furiously. The enemy seemed in full control—until he wasn’t.

Right then, God showed up. Hansen recounted, "He knew at that point that that was the Lord, and he said, 'What do you want?' and God essentially said, 'I want you back.'" That single divine sentence cracked the chains. The same man who cursed the Word would soon cling to it for his life.

He picked up the Bible he had just thrown and began reading from Psalm to Proverbs, the ancient words washing over him like a flood. Real deliverance didn’t come from some modern guru or vague New Age chant—it came directly from above. “I am your exorcist. You call on me,” God said, according to Hansen’s account.

Freedom Through the Power of the Cross

At that moment, Hansen says, his father was delivered instantly from a dozen demons. Not because of a ritual, incense, or chanting—but "through the power of the cross and the power of the cross only." That’s not denominational flair, that’s biblical warfare in its rawest form.

From that point forward, the former Satanist made his new purpose clear. He devoted his life to setting others free, using the same truths that had rescued him. Decades later, in his 80s, Hansen says his father continues to perform exorcisms with unwavering conviction.

“His faith is just so deep and raw and real,” Hansen noted. It wasn’t mass-produced Christianity; it was lived-out, hard-earned faith. And it’s this kind of conviction—fueled by truth, not trend—that our culture could use a lot more of these days.

Spiritual Caution for Today’s Culture

Rick Hansen doesn’t downplay the danger of spiritual flirtation in seemingly innocent practices. What starts as curiosity—whether through a Ouija board, tarot cards, or occult books—can evolve into something far darker. "Those things plant seeds… and those seeds grow into what you want them to because of what you fertilize them with," he warned.

He reminds believers to be on guard and alert to how spiritual doors open gradually. "It's not one open door that changes your life. It's usually a bunch of small open doors, small actions that allow that." And those doors often come disguised as entertainment or harmless exploration.

In a culture busy deconstructing faith while constructing confusion, Hansen’s story offers a sober reminder: spiritual battles are still real. And sometimes, the most powerful revival comes not from a stage—but from the living room of a man once claimed by darkness, now lit by grace.
