Trump says he could still target Clintons and Obama to wreck their reputations

President Trump said he could still go after Bill Clinton, Hillary Clinton, and Barack Obama criminally or destroy their reputations, warning any fresh impeachment could change his restraint.

In a Thursday interview with Newsmax’s Rob Finnerty, President Trump made clear he believes he still holds leverage over the three former top Democrats. He claimed he has “a lot of information” on them and could act if he chose. Yahoo News carried the remarks first reported by The Hill.

Trump framed the choice as one he has largely declined so far. He said he turned down earlier chances to pursue Hillary Clinton and signaled he probably would leave the trio alone unless Democrats try to impeach him again.

Asked about the meaning of “big numbers,” Trump answered in plain terms. He said he could go after them criminally or destroy their reputations.

Trump told Finnerty he still holds that option open.

"I could have done numbers on Hillary Clinton, I could have done numbers on Bill Clinton, I do like Bill Clinton,"

He continued in the same exchange, naming the former president directly and stressing the choice remains his.

"I could have done numbers on Barack Hussein Obama, still could, I still could. I could do big numbers if I wanted to. I turned down going after Hillary Clinton."

When Finnerty pressed whether he would actually pursue them, Trump left the door cracked rather than shut.

"I guess not, probably not, but I think if they impeach me, again,"

The comments arrive as Trump’s Justice Department has already moved against several of his longtime adversaries. The department pursued charges against New York Attorney General Letitia James after she won a civil case against him while he was out of office. Former FBI Director James Comey was indicted twice, once last year and again in 2026; a judge dismissed the first case after ruling the prosecutor was unlawfully appointed.

Prosecutors also sought a case against six Democratic lawmakers who filmed a video telling members of the military not to follow illegal orders. A grand jury refused to indict. The administration investigated Sen. Adam Schiff of California, former Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, and Fed board member Lisa Cook. Trump tried to fire Cook before the Supreme Court blocked the move. Former national security adviser John Bolton pleaded guilty in June to illegally retaining sensitive documents and was successfully prosecuted.

Critics have attacked those probes as payback. Trump’s interview answer treats the Clintons and Obama as unfinished business he has so far chosen not to finish.

That posture sits against a separate track already underway on the Russia collusion narrative. The New York Post reported the Justice Department opened a federal grand jury investigation into former Obama administration officials over whether they promoted false claims tying Trump to Russia during the 2016 race. Potential targets include ex-Director of National Intelligence James Clapper, ex-CIA Director John Brennan, and Comey.

Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard sent a criminal referral alleging an Obama-ordered assessment and seditious conspiracy. White House spokesman Harrison Fields said the administration remains committed to a thorough investigation after Gabbard “exposed clear and blatant weaponization by corrupt intelligence officials acting at the behest of the Democrat Party and likely former President Obama.”

Trump himself has called the Russia story a hoax that hurt people and, last month, went further.

"This is like proof, irrefutable proof that Obama was seditious, that Obama led, was trying to lead a coup, and it was with Hillary Clinton, with all these other people, but Obama headed it up."

Obama has stayed visible on the Democratic side of the midterm fight even as these legal questions build. He has backed Josh Shapiro’s reelection while party leaders lean on the former president for help.

He has also told donors the midterm map sits on a razor’s edge and stepped up his own campaigning. At the same time, Biden has stayed mostly off the trail as Obama and Kamala Harris carry more of the load.

Trump’s Newsmax comments draw a bright line between past restraint and future consequences. He said he likes Bill Clinton personally. He said he already passed on going after Hillary Clinton. He said the same capacity still exists toward Obama.

He did not announce new charges. He did not release the “information” he claims to hold. He did say the option remains live, and he tied any change of mind to another impeachment fight.

That warning lands while Obama continues to work the donor and campaign circuit and while Democrats still treat the former president as a core asset. One recent exchange even had Clinton recounting a laugh with Obama over a political jab at Trump.

Voters watching both tracks see a familiar pattern. Democrats spent years investigating Trump. Trump’s Justice Department has answered with cases against James, Comey, Bolton, and others. Now a grand jury is examining Obama-era intelligence officials over the Russia narrative, and the president is saying the Clintons and Obama themselves are not beyond reach if the other side escalates again.

Accountability is not a one-way street. If the record supports charges, the cases should be built in the open and tested in court. If it does not, the talk should end. Trump just made plain which choice he believes still sits on his desk.
