John Boyega confirms two-year secret marriage and a baby boy on the way

Star Wars actor John Boyega has confirmed he married two years ago in a small ceremony and has a baby boy on the way, keeping his wife’s identity private.

Page Six reported that the 34-year-old British actor of Nigerian descent made the personal disclosures in a Guardian interview published Oct. 4, after a reporter noticed the ring on his hand.

Boyega, best known for playing Finn in the Star Wars franchise, said the wedding was intentionally low-key and that he is already a stepfather to a young boy while he and his wife prepare for their son.

He did not name his wife. He framed the choice as a preference for building a life first and celebrating it later.

Boyega wanted the marriage settled before the party

Asked about the ring, Boyega confirmed it was a wedding band and that the couple had been married for two years after a small ceremony.

He explained the approach in plain terms.

"We both like the idea of celebrating something established, rather than celebrating the entry,"

He added a joke about a future celebration tied to his Nigerian roots.

"And by then, we’ll have to shut Nigeria down!"

On the pregnancy, he kept the language simple and direct.

"My baby’s on the way,"

He also said, “We got a baby cooking,” and described his home life as complete.

"So, you know, my life is completely, completely fulfilled in terms of family."

Public figures who discuss expanding households often draw attention to ordinary family priorities, much like coverage of Usha Vance on life with four children has done in a different lane.

Earlier fights with racist fans still sit in the background

The marriage and baby news arrived years after Boyega confronted racist abuse online. In 2020 he went off on racist fans during an Instagram Live session.

In 2022 he publicly praised Disney for defending “Obi-Wan Kenobi” star Moses Ingram when she faced racist attacks online. He later revisited the contrast on SiriusXM’s “Tell Me Everything With John Fugelsang.”

Boyega said the studio’s response to Ingram made him feel less isolated than when he first raised the issue.

“It makes me feel like, ‘Okay, cool. I am not the elephant in the room.’ Because when I started, it wasn’t really a conversation you could bring up,” he said. He described the earlier posture as silence: “You know how they went through it. It was kind of like, ‘Let’s just be silent.’”

He said he was not bitter about the different levels of support. He cast his role in biblical terms, saying sometimes a person leads others forward without entering the destination himself, and finds satisfaction in that.

“Sometimes you’re not the guy to get the blessing and sometimes you are Moses, you know, you lead the people to the mountain, but you see the destination,” Boyega said. “You don’t get to go in, you get others to go in. And that’s where you get your happiness from.”

The Guardian interview did not give a wedding date, ceremony location, due date, or the name of his wife or stepson. What Boyega chose to put on the record was the marriage itself, the pregnancy, and a settled sense of family life away from the red carpet.

A private wedding, a baby on the way, and a stepfather already on the job still beat the endless need to perform every milestone for strangers.
