Kai Trump posts hospital bed photo after successful wrist surgery

Kai Trump, President Trump’s 19-year-old granddaughter, shared a hospital selfie after successful wrist surgery for a golf injury, saying the recovery will take time but she will return stronger.

The University of Miami women’s golf team freshman announced the outcome of her latest procedure in an Instagram update Wednesday, posting a selfie from her hospital bed with her left arm in a cast and sling.

Fox News Digital reported that Kai Trump underwent the surgery at the Hospital for Special Surgery in New York City to repair a wrist injury she sustained during her first tournament of the season. She thanked Dr. Carlson and the care team by name and made clear she had hoped to avoid another operation.

She framed the choice as one made for the long haul, not a quick fix.

Kai Trump wrote that she reached the decision after talks with family, coaches, and athletic training staff. The 19-year-old competitive golfer said she wanted to protect both her long-term health and her future in the sport she loves.

"While I had hoped to avoid surgery, after talks with my family, coaches and athletic training staff, I know I made the best decision for my long-term health and my future in the game I love,"

She added that the next stretch will not match the plans she had mapped out for her freshman season.

"It’s certainly not how I envisioned the next few months, but sometimes the journey takes an unexpected turn, and I’m choosing to embrace this one with patience, and a whole lot of determination."

Recovery, she said, will “take time.” She described herself as fortunate to have people around her who keep lifting her up and treating every challenge as a chance to grow.

Second wrist surgery in roughly a year

This was not her first wrist operation. Kai Trump had already undergone wrist surgery about six months before a July appearance on “Fox & Friends,” where she talked about nerves ahead of her Division I start and the competitive streak she sees in both her mother and her grandfather.

High-profile Trump family members often face intense public attention even on private health matters, a pressure familiar in coverage of Barron Trump’s guarded life and the security demands that come with the name.

In the same Instagram statement she credited the full circle of support around her.

"Having the right people by your side makes all the difference, and I couldn’t be more grateful. A special thank you to Dr. Carlson and the incredible team at HSS in New York for taking such great care of me, and to my teammates, coaches, family and everyone who has supported me along the way."

She closed by focusing on healing and a return to the course with the Hurricanes.

"For now, it’s all about healing, and trusting the process. I can’t wait to be back with my team, doing what I love. I’ll be back before you know it, stronger and more grateful than ever! Go Canes!"

Golf injury hits early in the season

The latest injury struck during her first tournament of the season. Photo captions in the coverage show her playing tee shots at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Florida, during The Annika on Nov. 13 and Nov. 14, 2025, underscoring how recently she had been competing before the setback.

Personal milestones for the Trump family routinely draw wall-to-wall media focus, the same dynamic that has fueled sharp clashes when President Trump has criticized outlets over rally and family coverage.

On the July “Fox & Friends” segment she had described herself as “a little nervous” but ready for the next chapter at Miami. She noted her siblings were only about an hour and a half away and said her competitive edge runs in the family: her mom is competitive, and “Grandpa’s very competitive.”

Her mother, Vanessa, has also been in the public eye amid a breast cancer battle, with family members rallying around her, an example of the private strains that still play out under a national spotlight.

Political families on both sides know that glare. Comparisons surface whenever relatives become storylines, including moments when Hunter Biden discussed family legal pressures tied to the Trump era.

Kai Trump’s update stayed fixed on the practical next steps: heal, trust the process, and get back with her teammates. She did not detail the surgical technique or a precise calendar date for the operation beyond the Wednesday Instagram post and the earlier timeline of her prior procedure.

White House messaging operations have long managed how personal and political stories land with the public, a task that continues as Trump shapes his press team for the current term.

For a 19-year-old freshman already on her second wrist surgery inside a year, the message was straightforward. She chose the operating room for the sake of the years ahead in golf, thanked the people who got her through it, and told her teammates she would be back.

Young athletes who put long-term health ahead of a single season set the right example, especially when the cameras never really turn off.
