Federal agents seize Ilhan Omar’s cellphone in immigration fraud raid

Federal agents seized Rep. Ilhan Omar’s cellphone during a Monday raid on her Washington home in a criminal probe of her immigration paperwork, and the congresswoman calls it a political hit.

Homeland Security Investigations agents entered the Minnesota Democrat’s Washington, D.C., residence after a federal judge signed off on a search warrant. They took her phone as part of a joint Department of Justice and Department of Homeland Security immigration fraud investigation.

Fox News reported the Monday raid targeted criminal fraud tied to Omar’s immigration paperwork, with investigators also issuing more than a dozen subpoenas to her relatives.

The probe is examining whether Omar or her family misstated her age when she immigrated to the United States in 1995. She became a naturalized citizen in 2000 through her father’s naturalization, and records at the time listed her as 17.

U.S. Attorney Jeanine Pirro confirmed her office has opened a separate financial investigation into the congresswoman and said multiple tracks are active.

"There are several investigations going on, and I don’t think there’s any question, but if there was a crime that was committed, it will be prosecuted,"

Pirro told Fox News.

Subpoenas hit relatives as records face fresh scrutiny

The Justice Department moved quickly after the raid. Agents served more than a dozen subpoenas on family members while reviewing immigration filings connected to Omar’s late father.

That family-wide pressure matches earlier reporting that the DOJ is examining Omar and her relatives over alleged fraud.

Breitbart News detailed the cellphone seizure and the broader DOJ-DHS focus on her immigration file, noting rumors that the age claim is central to the case.

The Washington Examiner reported investigators also removed notebooks, personal computers, and a passport from the home. The same account said the inquiry is testing whether age alterations on citizenship papers allowed automatic naturalization and whether a prior marriage was a sham that could support denaturalization.

Those marriage and immigration questions track with prior confirmation that ICE opened a criminal investigation into the same set of allegations.

Omar calls the raid political; husband rejects age concerns

Omar rejected the investigation outright. She framed the search as retaliation rather than a fact-driven case.

"Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement,"

Omar said, according to the Washington Examiner.

Her husband, Tim Mynett, pushed back on the age element in a separate statement to Fox News Digital.

"My wife came here when she was 12 years old as a child war refugee. No concerns."

Mynett said.

Federal investigators are not treating the age question as settled. They are comparing the 1995 entry records, the 2000 naturalization file, and the family’s later statements against one another.

Financial probe runs on a parallel track

Pirro’s financial inquiry sits alongside the immigration case. It follows an earlier Biden-era look at Omar’s reported multimillion-dollar net worth. Officials have not released the full scope of the new financial review or any charging decisions.

House Republicans have already noted that Democrats once cheered aggressive search warrants against political opponents, a point raised after the Omar home search drew party fury.

Sources familiar with the warrant process have also said compelling evidence of crimes preceded the decision to enter the D.C. residence. No arrests or charges have been announced.

What remains public is straightforward: a judge authorized the warrant, HSI executed it, the phone is in federal custody, relatives face subpoenas, and both immigration and financial questions are open.

Taxpayers expect immigration files and citizenship records to be accurate. When federal agents seize a sitting member’s phone under a judge’s warrant, the public is entitled to a full accounting of what those records actually show.
